I had it last year when I was pregnant too, had no side effects whatsover and my DD is perfect in every way :) It's a no brainer really.

camdancer · 19/12/2010 15:45

Please have it. I'm on day 15 of the flu. I can't sleep because my back hurts so much. Today is the first day I've kept food down for almost a week. I've lost 5.5kg. I'm now on antibiotics because of a chest infection and if that doesn't shift it, I have to go into hospital to have iv antibiotics. And the worst of it is that I can't take care of my 2 DC's, so DH (who also has the flu) has had to take almost 2 weeks off work.

Please get the jab.

grumblinalong · 19/12/2010 15:46

Hi,

I was like you, I didn't get the flu jab because I thought I might have a reaction of some sort and as I've currently got hyperemesis, low bp and anaemia felt too ill to go to doctors. I'm 13 weeks and 3 days.

Really regretting it now as I have caught the flu from my dc's, it started yesterday afternoon after I made the mistake of going out for an hour (not been going out much lately because of hyperemesis). Got a high temp, it feels like someone is standing on my chest, I ache all over and have a horrible cough. Wish I would have got the jab now because if I get any worse I'm going to have to make a trip to emergency GP and it's minus 5 outside. The decision is completely yours, just thought I'd let you know the outcome of my choice!

camdancer · 19/12/2010 15:49

Sorry, forgot to say I'm also 17 weeks pg and have no idea if the baby is ok yet - antenatal appointment on Tuesday.

Grumblingalong - go to the emergency GP. The antivirals work best if taken in the first 48 hours of the illness. I know it is hard to get out, but it might be worth trying.

lucybrad · 19/12/2010 16:02

i have had the jab but am currently ill with a flu like virus at 38 weeks (although not as bad a full blown flu, as I can get out of bed.) I have had to be monitored in hospital because of my high temp and they are worried i may have swine flu to a lesser extent because of the jab and so I have had some tests done to see if it is.

All i can say is thank god I have had the jab. There are no known problems with the jab and plent of pregnant people had it last year with nothing to report. Just get it! There are 4 confirmed swine flu cases in my local hospital today (as the doctor told me).

xkatyx · 19/12/2010 16:08

Thank you all ladies, im in such a mess over it.

I haven't actually been offered the jad yet, but i am going to call my gp tommorow, plus i have a hospital app tuesday so i will be asking a lot of questions and hopefully get reassured..

I know i want the jab and i should have it, im just scared that something will happen to the baby because of it.

cece · 19/12/2010 16:09

There is a lady in the paper today who is so ill she might die, along with her 5th baby. In your situation I would have it.

Sariska · 19/12/2010 16:13

Another one who had it last winter whilst pg. Felt as if I had a responsibility to my older DC to keep well and healthy IYSWIM. and baby DD seems absolutely fine - and I would have her vaccinated if it was offered.

I know of someone who died of Swine Flu last year. She was totally healthy beforehand with none of the pre-existing conditions, such as pregnancy, that put you at a higher risk. Not meaning to scaremonger, honest!

xkatyx · 19/12/2010 16:16

cece, i also saw that, poor lady and her children.

The strange thing is i have 2 other friends that are also pregnant and i'm the only one who seams to be freaking out about it.

OP posts:
xkatyx · 19/12/2010 16:17

could i also ask to the ladies that had the jab, did you have any reaction? i always get high temps and poorly after jabs.

I was very much like you so wary of side effects etc however have flu at present and am suffering I will def b taking the flu jab when it is offered over next few weeks.

SummerRain · 19/12/2010 16:19

All three of my kids and my asthmatic d had it last year and all of them were fine. Sore arms but otherwise no complaints.

SummerRain · 19/12/2010 16:19

asthmatic dp

MrsCratchit · 19/12/2010 16:23

I've had the jab (at 28 weeks). No side effects at all. Very glad I did. A bout of flu has hit my office and (touch wood), I've been okay so far.

applecharlotte · 19/12/2010 16:25

Hi just to say.. i'm the same as lucybrad. I'm 33 weeks, had the jab at 26ish weeks (very almost didn't as usually have a very good immune system) but have just spent the last week in bed with swine flu anyway.

When i went to the docs after a few days I explained how horrendous i felt but that I've had the jab so it can't be flu and they explained that I've basically had a milder version of swine flu and that the jab has helped me fight it and protected my baby.

Please get the jab. I've felt sooo terrible and can't imagine how bad it would have been without - or the consequences.

applecharlotte · 19/12/2010 16:25

oh and just to say - no side effects from the jab. Just an ache in my arm for a couple of days.

Sariska · 19/12/2010 16:29

I had a slightly sore arm after the jab. No other side effects. Toddler DS, who also had it, didn't even seem to have the sore arm.

1Catherine1 · 19/12/2010 16:33

Get the jab - it is not worth the risk. I got it when I was about 15 weeks pregnant (27 now) and only last night I was having a conversation with the OH about how well I have been this winter in comparison to every year before. I'm glad I got it and my only side effects were a red bump where the injection went in that lasted 2 days and was warm to the touch.

Lots of other people I know and work with have been really ill and I've only had a cold that kept me off work for one day - not bad going for a pregnant woman who can't take drugs to ease the symptoms.

SarahScotChristmasSpirit · 19/12/2010 17:32

I had the jag at about 24 weeks, and like others had a slightly sore area on my arm for two days but no other side effects.

megonthemoon · 19/12/2010 17:45

I had it last year while pg. DH and DS got swine flu - horrendously ill even though not requiring hospitalisation or drugs - and i was fine. So very glad i had the jab as couldn't imagine being pg with it given how knocked out they were. Also my SIL got it while bf and had to bf through the flu which was incredibly hard and draining, so it's not just during the pregnancy that it is helping protect you but afterwards too when you need to be fully functioning.

FillMyXmasSprocking · 19/12/2010 18:17

I had it last year at 17 weeks. I had no side effects at all and dd is perfect.

I was so glad i had it, alot of people chose not to but i really felt i was doing the best thing for my baby and myself. Still do.

shirleyhyypia · 19/12/2010 19:06

I had it at last year, was v ill, but only for about 5 days. DS is perfect :)

thelizard · 19/12/2010 20:06

So glad to have read all this as has really helped me to make up my mind to have the vaccination. However, just to jump on the back of this thread, I have had a cold for 2 weeks, cough, sore throat and green/ yellow phlegm (sorry, tmi). Does anyone have experience of having jab when suffering already? Vaccination appointment tomorrow afternoon. According to my surgery,I have the last available appointment for flu vaccine and there are no more left (I did not receive letter inviting me to have it, when I rang they saidnthere was no more, I fought a bit and they found one!) so don't want to miss out! Any advice gratefully received...

OP glad you brought this up as I have been debating this over and over the last few days, thank you!
