Peeing in a pot?

Ok so I'm almost 38 weeks now and having midwife appts regularly so you would have thought that I'd got this peeing in a pot malarky down to a fine art.

Not so! What a palarva!

I cannot aim with precision at the best of times let alone now i can't see down there.

So i've resorted to pinching a kitchen jug (don't worry it won't be going back in the kitchen!) to give myself a bigger 'target' and then decant into the tiny sample pot.

How does everyone else manage?? Am i weird for having such trouble?

I always used the hairwash jug!!

I too use a jug. Makes it much less complicated!

Been using an old cream carton for ages! (like a yoghurt pot but bigger) No way can I aim into the little pot they give you! As you say, can't even see down there now (36+)

Plastic drinks cup - the ones you get in coffee machines - you can pinch them to make a spout.

I nicked a load of those cardboard peeing things they have in the ante-natal unit/hospital. 1st pg was OK as they had wide(ish)necked containers but by 2nd pg they were like feckin test tubes.

Um, you know you could be infecting/ changing your results by doing this? Apparently you have to do it straight in the pot due to sterilisation. I've had to do this with a newborn and rather large child with disabilities.. yes, in the same tiny pot!!

You'd think they'd creat a large one for these situations, wouldn't you!?

I always thought they were definitely designed by a man. I love the instructions... pee a bit... stop peeing... line up and target... pee into pot... stop peeing... remove pot and finish off yer wee. FFS I'm like Pringles - when I pop I can't flipping stop!

I think I might be disgusting because I just put the pot in the general area where I remember my bits to be and wiggle it around a bit to try and catch some. Then I wash the outside of the bottle and my hands off course.

Ladies, I reckon we could make our millions if we designed a more female-anatomy friendly pot!

They are SO designed by a man. I used to make a bit of paper into a funnel and then flush it away afterwards.

Given that I was using the same sample pot each time, returned to me by the midwife for re use, clearly there is no worry about affecting the results in this scenario.

I have had to do more pregnancy tests than any normal person should and I have completely given up on even attempting to pee on the stick itself. Complete waste of time.

Tarlia, I think that's standard practise. And they give it back to you with the pee in it for you to pour out later Or,to put in bag and forget about it for 2 days like I'm ashamed to admit I did once.

I have to reuse mine for each midwife appointment. For the first time this week at almost 32 weeks pregnant, I realised that my belly was too big for me to see where I was aiming anymore. My automatic reaction was to try and push my belly to one side - hah, as if that would work!

I go with the general aiming and wiping afterwards method also...

I used to do the "aim in the general direction of the pot and clean up later" thing, but now that I am up every 2 hours in the night to pee, there is only a limited amount available in the morning when I need to collect my sample! Every drop is precious

so glad someone started a thread about this! I'm doing the 'aim in the general direction and then clean up later' thing too, but as Zen says, its getting harder to fill up the pot with that method now, and thinking of getting a jug for that purpose. surely if the jug is clean it won't contaminate the sample?

I also did like pickle does.

Tarlia, DS1 is 11 so this has been standard practice where i am for a long time.
It is incredibly wasteful to give a new lump of non- recyclable plastic every time when there is no need.
I'm not entirely sure what is so disgusting about it.

Those pots are not blooming sterile. Ours are in an ice cream tub on the receptionist's counter.

I too was filthy and just aimed in the general direction and then cleaned up afterwards.

Our midwives (earlier in this pg) did not even give out a single pot for re-use, as the GP surgery would not supply them. Some sort of stand-off about whose budget it should come out of, I suspect.
We were invited to bring a sample in a jam jar or whatever. That I thought was a bit OTT, at least give me one to rinse and re-use.

I actually ask for my pot back to reuse Can't stand the unnecessary waste. Unless they are testing for infection, it doesn't need to be sterile. they are only doing dipsticks for proteins, as far as I know, and that doesn't need to be sterile
