Disabled aprking rant!

yesterday mieow and i took our kids to soft paly area near where we live. i had her ds in my car as he wanted to go in my car (the nifty little screen got his attention lol). but we couldnt get a disabled space. so i had to park right at the back far away from the entrance. (mieows ds has cerebal palsy and hold a blue badge).

do you know we couldnt get a space? cos some selish women decided the fact they had two MPV full of kids that they had righst to park there rather than someone who has a disability.

I went into the playcentre and asked what their policy was on disabled parking and one of the staff admitted that one of the cars in the 3 disabled bays was hers!!!! And they couldn't keep an eye on the disabled bays, I said 'your desk is right by the window and you can't even look out the window once in a while and just check if they have a badge?'

Shame they weren't as keen on taking the disability as they were on taking the parking space.

I would have taken her name and fired off a letter (although heaven knows,you ladies have more than enough to be getting on with these days.)

The other option is keying the cars in question of course....

the 2 woman with the MPV full of kids were just leaving as we walked in, so i made misdee go and move her car into the disabled bays, I should have put mine in there too as I had DD1 (who also holds a blue badge) but my car was near the enterance anyway.

It is my absolute pet hate...I am fortunate enough to not have the need for a blue badge but have had many an argument with selfish B*stards who abuse the disabled spaces.
I now have in my car a se tof A5 stickers which I have printed at home and stick right in the middle of the drivers side windscreen which says.
"As you are not displaying a blue badge I assume the only diability you have affects your brain-this is a disabled space designed for people who are pysiscally disabled not morons like you".
I have to admit,I have only stucka few on and only when I have seen that the occupants are clearly not diabled.I knwo I will get caught one day but it really make sme SO cross.

when I was a child, long before I had a driving licences, the govt ran a series of advertisements about being disabled, and one of them was a picture of a disabled parking space, and the caption "is this the only time you ever put yourselves in our place?"

It made such a deep impression on me, that Ive never even been tempted to park in a disabled space!

I must confess that I parked in a disabled slot for the first time ever last sunday morning. In my defence I was getting dd into a and e after she had a fit. I had to carry her to the deparment, and I couldn't do that from the non disabled parking. I had no-one to help me and was panicing big time.

there were no other cars in the disabled slots and I did move the car as soon as dd was on the ward.

Still felt guilty though

it infuriates me when i see people who are obviously well and fit go in disabled spaces, ive actually had a few rows with rogue parkers over it. also it annoys me when you get posers with no kids going into family spaces , if and when i do get a family space now and when ive finished my shopping i only let someone in the space thats got kids in the car!

Thank goodness, she is fine now, and has had no other fits in the last week. Scary though.

Agree that you have to be careful 36; Misdee has posted in the past about getting filthy glances for using disabled parking when her dh's disability wasn't obvious (heart failure, I think).

That's exactly what I meant- I have a friend who has a heart condition and therefore has a blue badge as she cannot walk far-however-to look at her you would never know.
I would NEVER challenge anyone who was displaying a blue badge-however fit they looked......

i think the original post meant people parking in the disabled bays that had no badge and no disabilities

yes we were talking about people in disabled bays without a disabled badge. MB, I would have done the same, tbh, if my child was fitting. But these 2 woman had just come out of a party, had about 6 kids each and no diabled badge, taking 2 of the 3 disabled bays. The staff member didn't move her car either...

MB - there's an enormous difference between taking your kid to A & E and taking your kid to a soft play or supermarket!!!

Agree that there may be hidden disabilities - I have a friend a few years older than me with a disabled badge due to pancreatic tumour who would look very young, fit and healthy.

I quite agree. As I said, have never done it before, and devoutly hope never to be in that position to have to do it again

As I said, she is fine now, and no fits all week.

Crazy really that there are no 'emergency' car parking slots that are not 'disabled use' near to the door of A and E. they seem to assume that you will arrive with two adults, one to take the patient in, and one to park the car. Whicj is daft.

What about "Just popping in for fags" spaces and "Look its raining and I have just had my hair done" spaces. FGS once its dark all bets are off and its a free for all anyway.

Don't get me started I have had to stop growling at people now. My kids are 6 and 9 and i see no need to use parent and child spaces and certainly not disabled. It really gets me going when I see people getting out of their cars with hairy arsed teenagers, by themselves or leaving their DH in the car with the kids while the ponce in.

I cracked up at DH once for parking in the parent and child, he was actually picking me (9mtns pregnant) and DS 2yrs, but I didn't see the need. MIL has a blu badge and she usually looks quite mobile when we arrive but on return she can barely walk and uses sticks, she really needs to park near to places to enable her to carry on doing as much as she can.
