One which just captures a time and a place. Even the filler tracks are sublime.

Mine are very predictable

Radiohead-The Bends
Rem-Automatic for the people

There are lots of others vying for place, but I'd have to have a bit of a think.

Year Zero by NIN. And possibly the remix album with Ladytron on it.

I have never listened to Grace by Jeff Buckley <puts on to do list> only ever heard hallelujah and prefer Cohen.

I'm listening to shagging nevermind now shock. I would put a Pixies album in there, they are my favourite band ever, but there are lesser tracks, so can't justify perfect.

prince - purple rain

the fall - curious orange

the smiths - various albums

janet jackson - control

the stone roses - the stone roses

when i first met DH, we used to sit up all night talking, he used to put these albums on, his taste was/is very eclectic, and loads of his stuff i wouldnt even entertain....he found albums that i liked and he used to put them on for me, then go in search of other stuff in his vast record collection that he thought i would like...i still draw the line at the dead kennedys! grin

Moondance by Van the man. Not evocative of a particular era in my life as it came out way too long ago for that, but just beautiful.

Oysterband- Holy Bandits. Holiday music.
Air- Moon safari, Rancid- and out come the wolves, and No Doubt- Tragic Kingdom. Soundtrack to my college years among others.
Portishead- Dummy (lost my virginity to this one!)

Yes to Stone Roses and Screamadelica, and Pulp too I think. Got a feeling there might be one of the Suede albums that fits the bill too.

I want to say Ella Fitzgerald - Gold, but there are one or two tracks I like less (mostly not because of her but the accompaniments or duets - like Summertime). Same for Bjork - Debut, there are one or two I'm always tempted to skip because the rest is so fab.

I want to listen to the ones I don't know that you suggested now, if I ever get the time!

Led Zep 2

Nothing else comes close

(except for Metallica, Jane's Addiction and NIN)

Impossible to pick one.

What's Going On? - Marvin Gaye
Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder
Innvervisions - Stevie Wonder
The Stone Rose - The Stone Rose
Hopes and Fears - Keane

No fillers every song a classic imo.

I was absolutely transfixed by the White Album the first time I heard it, I had the chest-pounding and blood rushing in head thing going on. Now I just feel contented and happy when I listen to it. I love it.

One more perfect album- The Sensual World by Kate Bush. I think every song on it is a jewel.

munkymaz Sat 11-Jun-11 19:46:30

Love by The Cult, fab from beginning to end!

GetOrf Sat 11-Jun-11 19:50:21

Depeche Mode - Songs of Faith and Devotion or Violator
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
The Smiths - all of them really
Arctic Monkeys - the first album
Heaven 17 - Penthouse and Pavement
Marvin Gaye - what's going on
Elton John's greatest hits

Glad to see Grace in the second post, and was really excited to see Joan Wasser mentioned on another thread too! MN'ers have great taste! I think that Damien Rice's O is damn near perfection.
