Hello! I was a relative newcomer to the last Twins Club thread. I thought I should start a new thread as the last one I filled up with a bit of chatter towards the end. The last thread was really useful to learn from others also carrying multiples and to get the benefit of recent 'graduates' (when they had a minute between sleeping and feeding newborns!)

I'm 37 and 16+5 with twins. I live in Oxfordshire with DH and these are our first children!

Be lovely to get some chatter going on the thread so please come and introduce yourselves :-)

PS Twins Club 4 thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1424471-Twins-Club-4-All-welcome?reverse=1

Just to continue our conversation from the last thread, gardenpixies ... v. relieved to hear you've got your bag packed, just in case!

DH wants to keep the sex a surprise and I'm pretty happy with that. We had a private scan at 8 weeks as I wanted to know, for sure, that I was definitely pregnant! That's when we found out it was twins. Like yours it was a really nice experience - we were the only clients in and it was out in the countryside, plus the doc gave us a whole hour. Lovely. 12-week scan was great as they look more like babies by that stage, but it was NHS and pretty brief. I have cervix scan in about 10 days (at which I'm hoping I can sneak a peak at the babies?) then the big one at 20 weeks. Time is positively rushing on now I'm in the 2nd trimester!

Hi - I am 17 weeks preg with DCDA girl twins. Little sisters to DS1 and DS2.....

mandasand · 24/09/2012 17:15

Welcome fastscooter. Ours are DCDA too. We're going to leave the sex a surprise till the big day.

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow. Have you been feeling any movements yet? I haven't, but have been told this may be because the placentas are both anterior.

Thanks for starting a new thread mandas. I always wanted a surprise but finding out it was twins was surprise enough so we decided to go for it and find out the gender. Such a lovely day.

Welcome scooter 4DC, how lovely :) Mine are girls too.

3 of us with DCDA twins!

My info: Twins will be DC1&2, I am 33 and live in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Natalietwins · 24/09/2012 18:50

ladythatlunches · 24/09/2012 19:58

Hello everyone, I have my ID girls as there 9 months old, also have 20 month old dd and a 9year old ds and 6yr dd

How exciting that you are all exspecting, such an amazing time for you all :) congratulations

gardenpixies32 · 25/09/2012 13:45

Thanks lady :) You must be a busy women with your 5 DC!

Welcome to the thread Natalie. How many DC do you already have?

Off to see the midwife in 20 minutes. Also have a scan on Friday and seeing consultant next Wednesday for steroid injections. I just hope they don't decide to make an entrance before I get the steroids. Does anyone know where you get them, bum or thigh?

Natalietwins · 25/09/2012 15:29

Hya these are my first so I have no clue what to expect me an my dp are very excited x

ladythatlunches · 25/09/2012 15:55

Hi garden, the injections are in your thigh, they don't hurt having them done just slightly after a little sting!!

Oh yes very busy :) I enjoy every minute of it, they have the cutest little personalities make it all worth it

FreeButtonBee · 25/09/2012 15:57

Hello - not sure if I joined the last thread, but I am 19 wks with DCDA twins. Another set to add to the list!

20 week scan next week, still no movement here either (also anterior placentas) but I have growed tons in the past 2 weeks so I think things are defo developing.

I haven't had a cervix scan - is that normal? Was told at 12 weeks that it looked fine so maybe they were happy enough. Will mention it next week.

This week's lovely symptom is stress incontinence (when I sneeze). God, how embarrassing. Have restarted pelvic floor exercises at odd moments and girding my loins pre-sneeze, which is all helping. I think maybe I was just caught off guard and hadn't realised the extent of the general loosening that was going on!

mandasand · 25/09/2012 17:04

Hey, nice to see so many people popping in!

Cor, lots of DCDA twins on here - fab!

Maybe we should have a stats thread too once a few more people join us?

How have you found your first nine months with your twin girls, ladythatlunches? But it sounds like you've had plenty of experience with your older three! Hats off to you! (The twins are our first children!)

Scan on Friday will be nice, gardenpixies! I've got my cervix scan next week (sorry, think I said that already).

Glad I'm not the only one not feeling movement Free! I'm 17 weeks today. And bloomin' HUGE!! Which, like you, I take to be a positive sign! I wouldn't worry about not having a cervix scan because I think mine (at 18 and 22 weeks) are to do with my medical history (a D&C that didn't quite go to plan).

I too gird my loins before sneezing, but only because I can get the sharpest pains down there if I don't - they bring tears to my eyes! Youch!

Hello, I'm 35+4 with dcda boy/ girl twins Smile. I had my last scan and consultant appointment today and got given my c section date as both twins are breech....so next Friday (5th) is d-day!

These will be #2 & 3 for us. Our dd is 5.5 and very excited about becoming a big sister!

ladythatlunches · 25/09/2012 19:18

The first nine months har been a mixture, the first 3 mi ths with the girls were hard, obviously recovering from csection (first one) and just the tiredness and gettin in to a routine was hard work, but once the girls turned 3 months it was like a happy switch had been turned on!!

They are such happy girls always smiling :)

To all that haven't felt movements for the first time, please don't fret, my girls were my 4/5 baby and being twins you would think you feel tem more but I didn't till near 20 weeks, with my single I felt them a lot earlier.

gardenpixies32 · 25/09/2012 19:25

Hello Celestia and Free - more DCDA twinnies!

Celista how did you get your consultant to agree to a section at 37 weeks? Mine insists on me waiting until 38+0! I am really struggling now. Just wondering if I should be a bit more pushy with what I want?

Celestia · 25/09/2012 20:03

I didn't really have to say anything to be honest, he just said it'd be at 37 weeks. Sorry yours is saying 38 weeks. You could try quoting NICE guidelines which say 37 weeks for dcda twins but unfortunately they are 'guidelines' so may not hold any weight Sad.

ShesADreamer · 26/09/2012 00:09

Hi all.
16 weeks with dcda twins. DT1 almost certainly a boy and DT2 stubbornly modest!
Also have DS (11) and DD (2).
Very glad to be past the worst of the nausea & tiredness, was lucky enough not to get either in previous pregs.

Lovely to meet you all!

mandasand · 26/09/2012 09:37

seems like most have had or are having a c-section. were you offered any other choice with twins? my local midwife tells me I will prob have one regardless, but my consultant at the high risk clinic said it depends and basically was a lot more open-minded. But I'd already come round to the idea of a c-section because it avoids a double labour, and I really don't want to have a vaginal delivery with one and then end up in theatre for baby 2.

Be interesting to hear how others came to decide on c-section.

Welcome Dreamer :)

Interesting how delivery of twins is so different from one hospital to the other. I did read about 37 weeks in the NICE guidelines but when I mentioned this to my consultant (who is lovely and listens very intently to me), he moved very close to me and made close eye contact with me. He then held my hands and said that there is a big difference in how their lungs will cope and whether they will need special care or not at 38 weeks compared to 37 weeks. Was strange but weirdly comforting. I gave in and agreed with him. Not so sure now though.

Mandas I would very much like a natural birth. What puts me off is the need for constant monitoring of the babies hearts. So very little walking and moving around. I would like an active labour and don't want to be stuck on my back for hours. Plus it is now so uncomfortable to be on my back for 5 minutes let alone hours at a time. I also don't want to be induced, this is why I asked for an elective section, however, have discussed with consultant that if twin 1 is head down when I go into labour then I will go for the natural birth. Had midwife yesterday and she thinks both are still transverse, I agree with her. Will see what scan says on Friday. It is all I can think of at the moment. Plus my bump is so sore and I feel like I am lugging it about. I am ready to meet these babies now.

mandasand · 26/09/2012 10:42

gardenpixies, you mirror my thoughts here - if a vaginal delivery then I would want an active labour too, not stuck on my back. Been reading a lot about it and it sounds much better all round. But I admit I didn't know (being quite naive about it all at this stage!) about the extra monitoring etc but that makes sense, there being 2 in there! Hmm.

Oh crikey, my bump has been getting a bit heavy lately and I've soooo long to go! Not quite halfway, I think, at 17 wks!

I'm already struggling slightly to put my socks on, and my knuckle bone on right fott is now starting to hurt (in addition to left hip) and I think it's pregnancy induced bunion! Plus my veins on my left calf are sticking out. And I've lost my dear little belly button! I had a bit of cry last night with DH as it's a bit scary not being in charge of my body anymore! I know how pathetic this must sound to those who are much further along or who already have kids but being pregnant feels like one incremental adjustment after another till you no longer bother to put yourself first - in other words, a good training for motherhood!

ladythatlunches · 26/09/2012 12:01

Hi everyone,

The guidelines for twins are - identical babies must go no further than 37 weeks!!! I was told csection is a must given the risk to twin 2 was far to much for me even to consider natural labour!

No identical I'm sure no later than 38 weeks and you are aloud natural labour if both babies are head down!!!

This is what I was told, not sure if it's different in different areas!

hedgehogpatronus · 26/09/2012 12:06

Hello, can I join in?

I have identical twin girls born at 32+2 and who are now nine months corrected. They are brilliant and wonderful and bloody hard work!

Being pregnant with twins was the best thing ever (think I've repressed the discomfort, sickness and sheer stretching), and I'd love to get some nostalgia going hearing about all of your experiences.

mandasand · 26/09/2012 18:37

lady that lunches, thanks for that. I'll see what the hospital say when I'm a bit further along. Everything's happening in November - next appt with the consultant, NCT classes, parentcraft-with-twins night at the hospital etc so by December I should have a better idea myself Smile

welcome hedgehog! I've always wondered what e.g. 'nine months corrected' means. Is is something to do with premature/original due date? (Sorry, am totally clueless, but learning fast!)

my right foot is a lot less sore today. been walking around (at home, not in this foul weather!) in my Birenstocks, for the extra arch support, and socks - a great look, I think you'll all agree!

Hi hedgehog, my girls are 9 months old too, how are you finding it all?

My two aren't moving about yet so I'm sure the hardest bit is yet to come :)

Aspiemum2 · 26/09/2012 23:22

Hi ladies, I have 4 month old b/g twins born just shy of 39 weeks. Spontaneous vaginal delivery. Was nice and quick (thankfully as you do have to be monitored)

It's been a roller coaster ride all ready but so much fun. They are interacting with each other a lot know which is ace to watch.

For those finding the bump a bit heavy, get a bump belt. Eases the pressure a bit. Last couple of months are hard, plenty of pillows at night is a must!

Will look forward to birth announcements in due course Grin

ShesADreamer · 26/09/2012 23:52

Hi all,
Just like Pixies, I'm quite keen to avoid a cs as don't like the thought of the post op recovery with existing DCs plus newborns.

Was told that, as I'd had two very straightforward previous births, there should be no probs with attempting to deliver the twins naturally. My hosp has mobile monitoring so you're allowed to move around the room if all is going well.
They did say they'd prefer me to have an epidural before pushing out DT1 in case I need assistance for DT2.

If they're breech, I'll need to discuss at the time to see what's best but they haven't necessarily ruled it out.

Mandas, not pathetic at all - I think you'd be odd not to be freaked out by all the changes. Despite having other DCs, I'm finding the prospect of a multiple preg and delivery a bit daunting. It feels very different and almost like the first time as there are so many unknowns.

Hope you get a lovely (double) dose of second trimester happy hormones soon!

Really good to hear from those whose DTs are already here. Especially sounding so happy. Am getting a bit fed up with people involuntarily saying 'Oh my god!' or even 'Oh no!' when I say I'm expecting two.
