I am really upset, as I got parking tkt whn i went inside the school to pickup kids. My car was on double yellow,there are no single lines on that street. I was only away for 6 min. ( on ticket time is 3.35pm -3.41pm.
I think its v unfair because they purposely come at 3.30 when they know parents are going to be inside the school.
Is it worth appealing against it?

But you parked on a double yellow. They are there for a reason. They mean no stopping. They are usually there for safety/traffic flow reasons. Could you not have parked further away? And walked a bit?

if you were parked illegally, then you were parked illegally, regardless of whether it was school time or not

if it is double yellows, then you are not supposed to park there !

we have the same at the school my DCs go to, traffic wardens do patrol at drop off / pick up times

cars parked illegally outside school creates a hazard

park further away and walk , then you don't get a ticket

I'm sure if they had known you were special and had a special reason for parking there they would have let you off, I mean, double yellows are there to stop people parking but that doesn't apply to YOU.... have you heard yourself??? LOL

double yellows are double yellows, it makes no difference at all what you were doing at the time

we have a nightmare at our school because of people parking illegally, so they have started having police patrols at pick up time!!!

so park somewhere further away. it won't kill you

I'm afraid you don't have a leg to stand on. Traffic wardens coming at a time when parking offences are most likely to happen - and most likely to cause the sort of problems the lines are presumably there to prevent - seems pretty sensible.

No, it's not worth apealing. You knew you were on yellow lines when you got out of the car. If your ticket/meter had run out because you had been held up in school I would have had sympathy for you, but as a previous poster said, you need to park safely and walk.

Don't park there, then you won't get a ticket.

Have you thought about parking further away from the school where there are no double yellow lines and using your legs?

It's hard but fair - you won't stand a chance of appealing.
It's the same at DS's school as pick up and drop off time is so busy - the school constantly ask parents to use the church car park about 3 mins walk away - so many ignore that thpugh and the patrols are starting to ticket parents here too.

drivers are allowed to stop on double yellow lines to let passengers board or alight. this not usually extend to the driver escorting the child into school or collecting childre. that said, i do know of cases won at appeal for this reason though, but not many.

would say though that just cos parking ticket shows time span of 6 mins, it doesnt necessarily follow that you werent away for much longer than that. in my experience and based on the limited info given, i think you are unlikely to have ticket cancelled.

yabtttu i think you should move whole thread over there. We have people parking on double yellows, blocking pavemnets and all sorts round our school. I wish the traffic wardens were there everyday at that time.

We have police patrols at pick up time, tehya ctively chase ds3's drop off away: ds3 is autistic and travels in a special disabled taxi.

If they ngot s ticket I would kick off and appeal

If however I or any other aprent without a similar level of need got oone I woudl say we had to accept it

I got a speeding ticket this week (first ever) for 37mph; I have the decency to be ashamed and admit it is my fault and should defintily do better.

Not that hard to accept is it, that sometimes we cock up?

I posted this on a thread and got no replies but seeing that we are talking yellow lines can any one answer. It is not a contervesial (sp) or provocative question just a genuine wonder?

Genuine question and I did ask a traffic warden who when I asked her said that she hadn't thought of it before.

Ok parking on double yellow lines is not allowed because you are/ can cause an obstruction. Fair enough but a car with a blue badge (disabled permit) is allowed to park there. Does that car not cause an obstruction like any other car?

Does anyone know the answer to that? It was a thought that popped into my head a few years ago when I saw cars on the yellows getting ticketed but the car next them didn't beecause of the badge. ''

upahill disabled badge holders are still not allowed to aprk in any way that would cause an obstruction or hinder an emergency vehicle, but are allwoed to park on yellows in order to get a shorter distance to travel to amenities

They do still ahve to bear safety in mind though

I understood that everyone including badge holders couldn't park where there were double yellows + the yellow lines that go on to the pavement. The car in question was parked on a junction and I always believed there was a distance you had to park away from a juction anyway but if there was yellow lines you couldn't park.

I understand and agree with the need for the disabled badge but struggle with the concept of yellow lines being there for a reason i.e. because it is not a safe place to park generally but for some cars it is ok.

The traffic warden did seemed baffled and was going to find out the reason but of course I have never seen her again.

This more of a wonder thing than a bee in my bonnett iyswim.

Yellow lines exist for avariety fo reasons- and parking too close to munctions isn't OK whatever your ability level

Am not up on where exactly disabled users can park as DLA people kindly refused us a badge (sob) but am aware of the no danger rule

The reason they purposely come to catch you is because they want to stop you doing it .

The lines are there for the safety of pedestrians and other road users, including children from the school.

Walk to school or park further away.
