Am I the only one wondering who JSP's 'friends' who found MN too 'aggressive' were?

Rindercella Sun 21-Mar-10 12:41:01

Justine won this battle hands down, but I was a little hmm and grin at the "mumsnet is phenomenally civilised" comment!

SpringHeeledJack Sun 21-Mar-10 12:44:38

couldn't read whole article

got derailed at thought of JSP saying "spurious"

what is her problem? I used to luuuurve her. I saw her slagging mn off on some chat show- she had evidently never even looked at it.

I am disappointed in you, Janet

<stern look>

She just doesn't get it, does she. Rather like those people who get upset that Women's Aid mainly supports women, but seem unconcerned that the RSPCA only helps animals.

paisleyleaf Sun 21-Mar-10 14:46:17

Why would she think that mums aren't affected, or concerned about, problems facing school leavers or women's pensions?

Ivykaty44 Sun 21-Mar-10 14:49:58

thankfully there are some working class girls on here to bring the tone down grin

Ivykaty44 Sun 21-Mar-10 14:51:00

paisley - JSP hasn't conected that the school leavers have mothers wink

paisleyleaf Sun 21-Mar-10 14:52:11

Ivykaty, yes, that was all I could think of too.

or that they might retire presumably

Ivykaty44 Sun 21-Mar-10 15:08:14

TBF I ge the impression that JSP is a little bit to tied up with herself and therefore doesn't conncet with teenagers having parents that may use mumsnet or daughters of pensiners using mumsnet - this would have crossed her mind.

Whereas the MP's have noted that the general population that use mumnset have babies, teenagers, univesty students, parents on pensions, mums working, dads working and therfore talikng to us would be a good thing as we cover a wide population of this country.

SpringHeeledJack Sun 21-Mar-10 16:19:20

I do think there is a bit of resentment towards mn from people who don't have kids. I find my child free friends can be pretty dismissive of it- without bothering to actually look.

Just like Janet, in fact.

She seems fed up about this lazy media bobbins of terming this "the mumsnet election"- I don't recall being pissed off last time cos I wasn't a Woman living in Worcester, or the time before, since I wasn't a Man with a Mondeo. Or because in ?1992 I didn't live in fecking Basildon...

[meh]

PussinJimmyChoos Sun 21-Mar-10 16:21:27

Mmm....I'm just wondering if this whole lashing out by JSP is because on some subconscious level, she regrets never being a mum?? I mean why is Mumsnet being singled out so much?!

Wish other women could just let other women be fgs...what does it matter to her what we talk about on here or whether politicians are after our votes... I mean this is a woman who did a veal campaign on the F word -so she is not immune to trying to persuade people on a point of view - no different to politicians...

<Puss mutters to self>

SpringHeeledJack Sun 21-Mar-10 16:35:16

heh! heh! Puss-

I remembered that she loathed her own mother, and assumed that maybe she was subconsciously repelled by the name Mumsnet

[armchair cod pyschologist emoticon]

Ooooooh seriously bitchy comment from MrsMouldie78 there. She's got a point though! I wonder how many members there are on Mumsonline now.

BranflakeGirl Sun 21-Mar-10 17:32:04

grin SpringHeeledJack - lovin' the pysch! You could have something there.

Oh no! Maybe we're being a bit too aggressive here and JSP's friends will get upset again?! Lets just take a moment to give them all a big MN hug, shall we? wink

SpringHeeledJack Sun 21-Mar-10 17:41:30

mmmmmmmmmmm

((((((((((hugzzzz)))))))))

grin

bib what's Mumsonline??

dittany Sun 21-Mar-10 17:42:02

That is quite funny that JSP of all people would be upset at a bit of aggression.

She needs to take it for what it is. Politicians obviously think this a good way to reach out to and influence a large number of voters. If it didn't work they wouldn't be doing it. There's nothing new in trying to appeal to different constituencies.

She almost seems to be objecting to politicians specifically targeting women. Given how marginalised we've been from the political process traditionally I don't understand why she should have that view.

I believe tis the name of the other side.

Mumsnet is very civilised compared with male dominated forums (sorry pedants, it just sounds better!).

JSP appears to be trying to take teh feminist high ground, on grounds of her career, but Justine politely wrestles it back to us.

I find Mumsnet very civilised compared to the one other (tiny) forum I visit. There, every single thread is killed off in an eye wateringly dully cynical way by a few forumites who all know each other in rl anyway. No discussion can ever get under way without someone coming along and jumping on it from a great height with their witty (read cynical, pedantic) observations.

Mumsnet is big enough to allow threads to expand and flow for a while, sometimes a long and constructive while, before the inevitable fisticuffs.

SpringHeeledJack Sun 21-Mar-10 21:22:44

you're right nbn- the first forum I ever went on was the Guardian's Comment is free, and I was over here faster than a rat up a drainpipe

In fact, next to that, on here feels like this
