Thought would make a new asthma support thread as we get in to the colder weather. Not had a thread for a while. All welcome - questions, moaning, general chat - anything goes :)

Marking. I've just gone back to work in London so I'm enjoying both cold weather and the lovely pollution.

Having had a good spell, I'm feeling poorly today - can't work out if it's a throaty viral thing though or a chesty asthma problem. Yesterday it was definitely just a funny chest feeling that I couldn't really describe to DH. Now my throat is coated in crap too Hmm - it could just be autumn/winter properly arriving, of course...deep joy... I'm supposed to be having my flu jab today, too. I bet they refuse Confused

How are we all? MPD

Report
magso · 17/10/2013 17:41

Sorry you are poorly MPD, hope what ever it is yu get ontop of it quickly. I'm doing OK. Cough ( the sort that chokes you if you lie down) is a longstanding problem, but wheezing only mild. I tried giving up dairy and I was not sure it helped. PF down recently.

misspollysdolly · 17/10/2013 23:38

I did actually have my flu jab in the end - phew! And feel a bit better this end I the day than I did this morning. Hopeful it's not going to be a full blown asthma episode but just fighting off a virus of some sort. Days like this make my asthma fraud complex worse than ever - very easy to tell myself I'm imagining 'funny sensations' or chest symptoms and that it can't possibly be asthma 'because that won't ever happen again, surely...?!?' I started with Asthma for the first time last winter at the grand old age of 40. The cold weather seemed to set it off.
I have not touched my brown inhaler since May and have been naively hoping I won't need it this year.
Am new to all this really.

I have a peculiar asthma, never have attacks as such but am just always a bit further along the breathlessness spectrum than I ought to be. I have been like this all my life and worse with colds, hayfever, etc.

It appears that as this has been untreated for most of my life (only treated for about 10 years and properly diagnosed for last 5) I now have some lung damage which is irreversible. It doesn't affect me at the moment although I use an inhaler every day but I just want to be careful so it doesn't affect me in later life

Have had my flu jab just in case.
Hope everybody keeps well this winter

Hi all. Just marking my place really. Hope you are all feeling ok.
I have had brittle asthma since a child and have been in and out if hospital since then. For a couple of years I even had to have a subcutaneous IV 24/7. Touch wood I haven't had an admission for over 18 months and i have cut back hugely on the medication.
My asthma always seemed to get worse around my period, has anyone else found that? ( I have a sneaky suspicion that I am a weirdo in this respect - and many others Wink).

Hello feeling much better on puke front - was just one night of spew!

Had to go to GP yesterday as was quite wheezey and pf was down at 300. (Best is 475) Chest sounded wheezey, so on pred :(

Had an argument with my pharmacist today about drugs i am on - apparently am on too many...er no! Just because it isn't the usual ones it doesn't mean I am wrong!

kiwi my asthma is totally period related! :) There are research journals to prove this is a real thing.

I went to the funeral yesterday of a young lady of 19 who had same resp consultant as me at hosp - she died waiting for a double lung transplant - very very sad.

Hello may I join in? I am a bit like you, timid, I don't get attacks, my breathing is just getting gradually worse. My p/f is about 250 normally, but around 200 when I have a cold (like now). I used to average about 270 but am clearly getting more short of breath over time. I have always had less puff than my peers, used to smoke but stopped more than 12 years ago. My lungs have not forgiven or forgotten Sad

How are we all today? My chest and back and shoulders have been really sore. Needed atrovent and ventolin neb before could get out of bed today!

Have purchased a mini battery operated neb...can't wait for it to arrive.

My new nebuliser arrived today - it is a pocket one - very teeny and cute! this one if anyone interested. Know a few people at my asthma group have it and love it.

Will use my NHS one in house but this for taking everywhere.
