How to translate a page from internet?

minxthemanx · 25/04/2011 18:53

Have found a document I want to read on internet, but it's in German. I tried clicking the translate option, but it said the document is too big to translate - I only want a certain page. Anyone know of a way I can do it? If I selected the text I needed translated?

If you use a website like babelfish you could select the text you need translating and then put it into there. Although babelfish can do some slightly odd translations IME.

Or you could see if there is anyone on here who wouldn't mind translating it for you?

Try copy and pasting bits into Google Translate

Thanks, will have a go with google translate.

Mmm. The document won't let me cut and paste it, so can't paste it into Google Translate. Stumped.

Can you link the document?

minxthemanx · 25/04/2011 20:40

Er...how do you do that?

No, can't see a way to link it. No option of copy/paste or link.

What web page is the document on? Can it be saved? What filetype is it?

nannynick · 25/04/2011 20:45

If it's accessed via a webpage, copy the text in the address bar of your web browser... such as:

I just want page 36 translated, not the whole document. Didn't think it would be this hard!

Try this Doc.
It's the page with the bloke in the glasses at the top. Not sure Google translate has translated it that well.

nannynick · 25/04/2011 21:07

To get that I downloaded the PDF. Opened page 36 with Inkscape. Then manually extracted the text and pasted text into a Google Docs document, then asked Google to translate it.

Nanny you are an absolute star, thank you so much. It's not that easy to understand, but I can get the gist more than I could with my basic German. He is an old, old friend of mine and I was dying to read the article! Thanks for all your help.

Page 37 seems to be a continuation. Shall I try adding that text, so you can see if it is a continuation or not.

nannynick · 25/04/2011 21:29

With Page37

minxthemanx · 25/04/2011 22:05

Thanks again. Really kind of you. Smile
