He was fantastic tonight. Warm, modest, charming; got a standing ovation just for walking on stage. 4 encores. Oh, he's wonderful.

kewl! we're off on a road trip culminating in Glastonbury this week.

can't wait. Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond are the two main reasons I am going.

Where did you see him? Doubt it will be quite such a great experience for me as it'll be a festival and I will have dd (2.5) with me!

Saw Him at the Opera House in Manchester. Am suffering withdrawal symptoms today and feel a little melancholic (what else?) that I may never get to seem him live again.

I'm not surprised the show is 3 hours long; most of it is applause.

I'm going - can't wait. Dh had arranged his leaving drinks on same day, even though Prufrock going to see Lenny was in the diary for ages. To give him credit, once he realised the clash he didn't even think of asking me not to go - even though it means dis-inviting over 100 people!

I'd love to go. I 'discovered' LC when I was about 17 and thought I was so deep and intellectual grin I even practised saying 'Ohhhrrrnges' like he does in Susanna.

I think I was about 18 when got into him. I remember the blurb on the Greatest Hits is great. eg re 'Sisters of Mercy' - "the moon was reflecting off the ice of the Saskatchewan River"

did he do suzanne?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Tinker on Mon 23-Jun-08 23:36:49
Oh, I'm sorry Norma. I realised that as soon as I posted. I did hear though that he'd added more dates but haven't seen anything. Yes, he did Suzanne. The whole thing was wodnerful, really quite emotional, have been thinking about it a lot, probably because he is now the same age as my mum when she died so I worry about him.

I must dig out LC music - haven't listened much in the last few years much

Oh what is that other song that comes into my mind

"that's no way to say goodbye"

did he do that one?

hmm?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Tinker on Mon 23-Jun-08 23:42:42
Yes, he did and with a slightly different arrangement.

Not according to the woman in Chelsea Hotel (rumoured to have been Janis Joplin)

But I'm glad to know I'm not the only person on here drawn to much older musicians with looks that aren't always seen as conventionally good.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Tinker on Mon 23-Jun-08 23:59:10
I don't think there's any question it was Janis Joplin, he's named her I think.

Just read the review in The Observer - sounds fantastic ! I love LC but dh finds him very depressing [

I've never found him depressing, rather on the cheerful side by my standards. That may say something about my taste in music.

we used to lie aroun d at art school listening to 'Rremembering Greensleeves' which is pretty dire though

I'm so pleased to have found this thread. I'm taking my sister to see him tonight at the O2 and I was rather worried that I would be bored/depressed/something else not nice.

Now I'm rather looking forward to it. Thank you all.

I'm so glad to have dug this thread up. I went to see him on Friday at the O2 with DH who got the tickets for my birthday and went along to humour me, and even he left converted.

I adore him. That voice <melts>. I cried through parts of it. He was wonderful.
