No longer self isolating. How can this be right?

If you come into contact with some who has covid you then get tested every day for 7 days and carry on regardless at work or school.
How can this be ok? What happened to 14 days isolation? Why only 7 days of testing?

Because it takes around 5 days from catching it to testing positive. Therefore if your context was 7 days ago and you haven't tested positive in that time you didn't catch it from that person.

It’s a fucking appalling idea for schools especially as the tests don’t work.

The 7 days in school is school days so 9 day period but not tested at the weekend.

Exactly, not being tested at weekend so surely at weekend, those who have come in to contact should isolate? But we are not because that’s not the guidelines.

I know this is the plan for eventually getting schools back open again. It’s a crap one, because the lateral flow tests are so inaccurate that they’ll make schools a covid-soup with infected people mixing in large groups daily, falsely believing themselves to be negative.

Is this going to be the case in other workplaces now as well then?

With over a thousand deaths and 60 odd thousand new cases today, it does sound like a spectacularly risky idea!

I wonder if any other countries use dodgy tests instead of self-isolation as a plan.

Do you know which tests are being used? Are they testing at home or at work?

It’s optional though you don’t have to consent to it. I haven’t and won’t be for my children if they were at school.

Eh? If you come into contact with a covid-positive person, you are told to isolate for 7 days. Isolation means staying at home away from everyone, including others in your household, and not going out again until the end of that 7 day period.

Who said anything about testing every day? I know someone who has been told today by the NHS app to self-isolate. They haven't been told to test every day.

24 to 20 was bad enough, but 7 ?!?!

I also think daily testing after being in contact with a positive case isnt good enough!

@Calmandmeasured1 just look at the guidelines for schools and key workers. Test every day for 7 days. It’s crazy.

I completed the online gov.uk test form and there’s a box saying if you come in to close contact then lateral test every day for 7 days

Where are companies getting the tests? Schools have been dumped with obsolete stock no one else wants.

In schools they will test at school which means getting on the bus with all their mates, heading to school then potentially testing positive Hmm

How do you get the tests? Around here you have to book in advance for the lateral flow test - several days ahead.
So do I guess and book Willy nilly??

The tests are at work and school. I’ve no idea where they have ordered them from but I doubt they are very reliable.

The schools guidance is 7 tests. Since that is guaranteed to include a weekend, you must isolate at home on days you dont have a test. So that is 7 (unreliable) tests, plus 2 days isolation over the weekend.

I told my line manager at work the reasons I would be choosing to self-isolate rather than have the 7 days of serial testing (inaccurate tests) and he told me those were my “personal beliefs”.

Anyway, at least I have the measure of him now Angry.

But Covid can take up to 14 days to develop! In Ireland we have to isolate for 14 days after contact with a positive case.
