DD2 is having her MMR today (DD1 had single vax but the clinic closest to us that did them now does not and the closest one I can now find is york and I don't drive) I am crapping myself to tell the truth, so a friend of mine has offered to come with me smile

I noticed this morning that DD2 has developed a coldsore overnight, now I now she isn't poorly and seems absolutely fine. But now I am all anxious (well even more anxious) about her having the MMR.

Do I need to reschedule? She will be okay having the MMR while having a coldsore.

Please don't laugh at me, I have an anxiety disorder and OCD which is associated with my anxiety, so I know I can completely over react in normal situations. Hence why I am asking all you lovely ladies and gents.

I think she'll be fine and with the fact that its coming into autumn / winter youre probably best getting it over with before she starts on the endless round of coughs and colds etc!

Ring the GP and ask the office staff to ask the nurse if it's contraindicated in the vaccine information.
You're not being precious at all. I really believe in the safety of MMR and all mine have had it - and all their other jabs but even I wouldn't take a child for a jab if they were unwell. Sounds like you're in a grey area with the well but coldsore situation so it's perfectly reasonable to ask for advice.

Very, very true, thanks.

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 08:20:51

Just don't want to not take her for it if it is me overreacting to the situation IYSWIM.

I need some partial advice as DH just says to do what ever I think best lol (he is no use whatsoever)

sorrento56 Thu 09-Sep-10 08:21:22

I wouldn't take her but then we had the singles for all ours. You had reasons for not giving your eldest the MMR so what has changed that it is suddenly okay for your younger child?

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 08:21:45

Thanks Northen, great Idea I well ring the Dr's when they open to ask them. Just hope they don't laugh at me lol.

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 08:26:27

Sorrento nothing has changed other than the clinic closest to us (which in itself was well over 50 miles away) no longer does single vax. The next closest one is york, we have neither the means (vehicle) or the extra cash for train etc (on top of paying for the single vax) to be able to get there one time let alone twice!

So other than leave DD2 vaccinated which is not going to happen we have no other choice but to give her the MMR.

I don't want to debate the single vax v's the MMR I just needed some advice on what is a stressful situation to me due to my anxiety disorder & OCD. OCD which incidentally had been really bad since we worked out that we could not give DD2 the single VAX.

nickschic Thu 09-Sep-10 08:26:45

Sorrento dont make her feel worse shes already said the clinic has closed and the nearest one is too far and she cant drive.

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 08:27:06

un vaccinated

sorrento56 Thu 09-Sep-10 08:27:48

I wasn't looking for a debate, just interested into why you were doing different things with your younger child, that is all. Good luck when you ring but I would be very tempted to postpone.

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 08:29:37

I feel bad enough about it as it is TBH sad

Pixie, that's how I feel right now, I need to man up lol.

I have rang them and the nurse said to bring her in anyway and we can talk about it when we get there and then decide what to do. I think that is the best option so far.

Poledra Thu 09-Sep-10 09:06:33

OP, DD3 had her MMR (which I have no problems with, BTW) delayed as she had a heavy cold, and the GP said that, although it was not contraindicated, we should just reschedule as there was no point in making her more miserable than she already was. We had it done a few weeks later when she was feeling brighter.

Sounds like you have a good plan in place - hope it all goes well.

MollysChambers Thu 09-Sep-10 09:06:37

Yes give surgery a ring. And don't feel bad about giving her MMR. Mine have all had.

I was talking to my friend about it yesterday and both of her lo's have had it!! I've spoken to my MIL for her advice but the MMR wasn't around when DH and I were younger. I myself have had the measles and it is a sorry, nasty illness to get I still remember how I felt and it was awful!!

MollysChambers Thu 09-Sep-10 09:10:53

Think you're sorted then! Good luck!

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 09:22:09

Thanks everyone, I am feeling a bit calmer now I have spoken to the nurse.

I don't want DD2 to have the MMR but I also don't want to leave her un-vaccinated and the only way we can give her the single vax is by getting a loan and DH wont. I don't have a job so cant do it in my name sad

MollysChambers Thu 09-Sep-10 09:25:14

I honestly don't think you should worry about giving MMR. I could have gone down the single vaccine route but chose not too. Haven't given it a second thought since.

becaroo Thu 09-Sep-10 09:27:33

No one is laughing at you!
Ring the GP and ask for advice....AFAIK they only postpone jabs if there is a raised temp.
HTH x

sorrento56 Thu 09-Sep-10 12:46:36

I am really sorry if I upset you sad I didn't mean too, I was merely interested as we are in a similar situation that we can't get our youngest vaccinated with the single mumps jab but don't feel able to have the mmr. I am sorry. sad

insertwittynicknameHERE Thu 09-Sep-10 13:21:18

Sorrento you haven't upset me, this damned horrible situation has, just wish I didn't suffer so badly with anxiety sad

I really, really wish we could afford what it would cost for not only the single vax but the train travel and the money I will need once I get to york. Not forgetting the logistics i.e the fact that I will have to walk from the train station to the clinic in a city I don't know, as no car seat for a taxi as I cant fit car seat on the buggy. Money for a babysitter for DD1 unless I take her with me, which would probably cause more stress for not only me but for both the DD's.

DH and I worked out that we would need bare minimum £200 - £250 plus each time, even if we don't give her the mumps that is best part of £500. The only way we could get that sort of money is by getting a loan.

It is complete and utter pants and I feel so guilty that we did it for DD1 but cannot for DD2

BeerTricksPotter Thu 09-Sep-10 13:39:50

Don't be embarrassed to phone the surgery - I told dr I didn't think DS had enough weight on him for first lot of jabs (not MMR) due to prematurity and feeding problems and he agreed! So after worrying for weeks I was amazed that a medical professional thought the same as me.
A suspected egg allergy meant we spent 2 extremely boring days in hospital staring at the MMR jab site for signs of inflammation.
So ask them, delay it if you think there is a reason to.
Fully sympathise with your single vaccine dilemma. We wished we had the money too, but didn't and the whole egg allergy thing complicated it too.

Good luck smile
