Is backpain (constant) a sign of labour!?

I'm 40+6.

I've had no signs of imminent labour so far.

Then, last night on my way to bed I started feeling back pain. It's still there now. It's not coming and going, it's just there. It's low down and feels achey.

Could this be a sign that today's the day? Or is it just back pain?! (I w

This is DC2, but my last labour started 2 days before my due date with waters going, so this one is different already!

Oops, I was going to say, I wonder if the pain could be because she seems to have changed position a bit?

Hopeful bump!
(No pun intended Grin )

Hi A ....... It could be! I didn't have this but several friends had theirs start at the back and then it moved to the front as labour progressed. Exciting stuff! Xxx

aufaniae · 17/04/2013 05:47

Thanks for the reply :) It feels very tight around my sides and tummy too, (where my waist would be if i still had one!) but as it's constant it's not contractions, is it?

Am meant to be seeing the MW later today to discuss induction. I would love to avoid induction!

Good timing on the midwife I think......hopefully she'll be able to advise. Fingers crossed for you! X

Chottie · 17/04/2013 05:56

My first labour started with consistent back ache at the base of my spine. I didn't realise it was labour either.

stella1w · 17/04/2013 06:02

Yes, i haad back ache for 12 hours

LovesBeingWokenEveryNight · 17/04/2013 06:15

Yep was there for me

wellieboots · 17/04/2013 06:18

Yes, I started with backache, good luck!

aufaniae · 17/04/2013 06:46

Ooh that sounds promising, thanks for the replies!

Hope it's less than 12 hours till it kicks off properly though! 12 hours of pain before you've even started is just unfair!

Now what did I do with the hot water bottle ...

Imnotaslimjim · 17/04/2013 06:48

another one that started with constant backache - it was so sore I had to crawl to the toilet. That slowly faded, then built up into proper contractions. Took me 26 hours from the backache starting to delivery

getmeoutofthismadhouse · 17/04/2013 06:52

I had to go to hospital the day before I had my ds . I waddled down the corridors of the hospital coz I had so much backache , I had him my 10.30am the next morning :) good luck !

aufaniae · 17/04/2013 08:28

Fingers crossed, this might be the start of labour!

Having mild contractions now, every 3 minutes but only lasting 20 seconds and not what you'd call intense yet.

I felt a pop! Shock (Didn't hear it)

And I think my waters might have started coming out, either that or I weed myself a tiny bit! (Sorry TMI!) No gush like last time yet ...

Spoke to a MW at the hospital, she says all very encouraging :)

Very exciting Op, all the best for the next fw hours.

My bet - 3.45pm today, 7lb 4

Fragglewump · 17/04/2013 08:33

My bet 11.17 am 8lb 2oz. Good luck xx

aufaniae · 17/04/2013 08:34

Thanks :)

Love the prediction, should I be running a book on this? Grin

7lb 4 would be great. DS was a day early and 9lb 4 (ouch!)

I was augmented last time (induced after labour has begun naturally) so all this build up to labour is new to me. Much better than than the Syntocinon drip - so far at least!

My lovely lodger reckons 8lb 6 and 3:55pm. She's looking after DS when we go into hospital, that'll totally scupper her afternoon plans today!

This could go on for ages, right? No need to ask DP to cancel his 10am meeting, or is there? (He'll only be 20 minutes away).

Tell your dp to take a phone into the meeting with him. In fact not to go anywhere without it! Good luck sounds like baby's coming Grin

aufaniae · 17/04/2013 09:34

Oh yes, his phone is going everywhere with him! He's actually recording audio and switched on phones are usually an absolute no no. But not today!

OP posts:
aufaniae · 17/04/2013 09:57

Aarg! We've managed to send DS off to nursery without his lunch box! DP could deliver after his meeting but it's an hour round trip. (DS goes to nursery at my uni campus).

How annoying! Must have my mind on other things today Grin

I bet I go into labour proper then!
