Someone called my blog boring!

PavlovtheCat · 29/11/2012 22:52

He said that I had some quite good things to say, but it was a dull read. that maybe I should add some video or photos or decent links to make it more interesting, less boring and keep people returning.

I know it is, and have not posted much last couple of weeks as I think I am too boring, so this just makes me feel even more Sad and crap at it!

Don't give up. That's the thing about blogs, you are putting yourself out there , you must accept comments, good and bad, and so long as they are not nasty or insulting, just accept them as one person's view.
KEEP BLOGGING Grin

feck i know, andI should be thankful that out of all the lovely comments there are going to be some that are not so positive. And maybe I need to learn from it and make it less boring. I had just hoped a tinsy bit that was me being a bit you know, down on my own work. So it's a little harsh to hear my own thoughts echoing...

I won't give up I am sure. Just need a rethink.

Your blog isn't boring. What a cheek!

It isn't going to be to everyone's taste though so you will have to accept that.

Some people liked Twilight, and 50shades. Some read Jane Austen.

It was rude to say your blog was boring. He could have just clicked away.

PavlovtheCat · 29/11/2012 23:25

Mme oh I know it is not to everyone's taste, and also, not everyone has any real reason to be reading it, it is not that generic. But, if I read a blog that is not my bag i do as you say, will click away.

I just ignored his comment as it made me sad!

Have never seen your blog, OP, but the vast majority of them are boring. Is it "about" something specific e.g. baking, travel, technology? Is the person who criticised it part of your target audience?

Blogs are blogs - they aren't meant to be thrilling are they? Just interesting to your target 'market' and yours is.

hollar it's as boring as banking! Wink

I don't even know why I am so bothered! I was unsure if I was going to even publish for the public to start with as I was not really doing it for others to like, but more, as an outlet for my own thoughts etc, get it all down and if others liked it, great, but certainly I am no profound writer and did not expect it to be some hit. I have seem some amazing blogs with amazing writers who do extraordinary things, mine is nothing compared to those and I can't even begin to try. So, not sure why it bothered me. Ego I guess.

Rubbish lazy-thinking suggestion IMO. With most personal blogs, a number of people will be very interested in reading them and most people won't be interested at all. If a person falls into the category of not being interested, I cannot begin to imagine what difference links and videos would make to them. Why would you be suddenly keen to read something that bores you just because it's got links to more stuff that will bore you and videos around the topic/outlook that you have already established you find boring?

Everyone reckons they're a social media guru these days, and "have more clicky things" is one of those stock suggestions they make. Half the time is bears no relation to what you're trying to say or the audience you're trying to reach.

I haven't seen a blog that isn't boring! The only ones that I find interesting are the ones that leave me incredulous that the person is actually serious!

Anyway- if you are going to blog you must realise that you can't get more than 50% finding you interesting.

What are blogs for? I've seen blogs on business websites but I haven't seen any others.

I use fb, twitter and linkedin but I don't even know where to look for blogs. Confused

Would someone kindly explain what it is all about. Thank you!

So do people have a blog for a reason? Are bloggers hoping to sell stuff via their blog or are they the first stepping stone in becoming a writer?

Who reads them? Family and friends? Or strangers? How do people find blogs?

Lots of questions. Grin

Ignore him. Like my blog, I don't think your's suits tons of pictures or video.

What are you going to put up a picture of? A back? Some pills? Just to have a picture? Silly. IMHO

Your blog is great.

some people blog as a kind of online diary, some blog to raise awareness of an issue, some blog as an outlet for their creativity. There are lots of reasons. Dillytante started an interesting thread recently about this. Will try and find it.

I started blogging when we moved to Switzerland, as a way of keeping friends and family informed of how we were getting on. It became less and less of an expat mummyblog and more about politics, opinions, social media... it is a real hodgepodge now.

Through blogging, I have made friends, had some fabulous offers of work, and done some amazing things.

You can find blogs on our Bloggers Network, or check out one of our blogs. Many of us have links to other blogs on them. Mine is SaltandCaramel.com

I know not everyone is a fan of blogs, or of Twitter, but I do find it quite rude to dismiss an activity as boring and pointless, just because you don't like it, Exotic. I don't particularly like knitting or crocheting, but I wouldn't say to a person who does like to craft, that it is a totally useless hobby.
