Four things to know about Mumsnet Bloggers Network

ElinorMumsnetBloggers · 20/09/2011 13:55

Hi all,

We're keen to get you out and about on the site and beyond, but here's what we need to promote you more powerfully on our homepage, Featured Bloggers slots, MN newsletters and social media:

  1. A bloggers network badge on your site: This is an important part of membership. The badge links back to the network homepage, which drives more readers to everyone. So keep the love flowing and attach that badge! We shared information on how to attach it in your welcome email, and please ping us as [email protected] if you're really struggling.

From October, we'll expect you to display the badge to gain a top promo slot on Mumsnet and newsletters, or to review products for us, so it's worth the effort.

  1. A picture for your blog: A few of you have sent em in, but most of you are concealing the goods. Don't be shy! A unique image for your blog will make it far more clickable.

And we need them to promote you as a Featured Blogger.

You could use a headshot, or whatever you use on social media. It needs to be at least 80 x 80 pixels, ideally square. But a rectangular shape is also OK. We can work with jpg or png formats.

Please send it to [email protected]. We'll cut them and add them to your profile.

  1. Your Twitter handle: Please take a gander at your profile on the directory and give us a heads-up if you didn't include your Twitter handle when you applied. It gives us a quick and powerful way to spread the word to our wider audience.

If you're new to Twitter, we'll be doing much more on this in the autumn, so watch this space. You can follow us @MumsnetBloggers for the latest from the blogs.

  1. Your blogging byline: We've taken the name on your blogging profile or left it blank (and we will never use your real name unless it's already out there on your blog). But please email us if you'd like to change your byline. Again, you can check this out in the bloggers directory.

OK, that's it for now.

Thanks, Elinor

Thanks Elinor, I'm not sure if you have my twitter handle, it is @breadfortheboys (for [email protected]). I think I've done everything else Smile.

FrauLindor · 21/09/2011 09:02

Thanks, Elinor. Just noticed that my name is given as MmeLindt rather than MmeLindor, so if you could change that.

Other than that, I have done the other stuff.

Good to see this growing, I am definitely getting more hits coming from Blogger Network.

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 21/09/2011 17:36

Hi MmeLindor and Breadfortheboys,

Thanks so much! We've made your changes.

Hi Amodmillymum, Purplemom and Angel786,

We're having a whale of a time letting in lots of blogs, and we're moving round to putting up their profile pictures. If you've already emailed us in your pic, that's brilliant! We'll put it up soon.

Angel786 · 21/09/2011 17:41

Smile thanks!

Cheria · 21/09/2011 17:44

Hi I have sent you a picture and my twitter name...

I too have had loads more hits thanks to the network and also thanks to the various times you have highlighted my blog, so thank you for that

ScatCatShoo · 21/09/2011 20:33

OK, the badge is now right up at the top of my site (how kind of you to make it in the right colours for my site :)), and I am following @MumsnetBloggers. Anything else?

Loving being part of the network... I don't feel so alone any more :)

breadfortheboys · 21/09/2011 20:34

ShirelyKnottage · 22/09/2011 09:58

CaptainNancy · 22/09/2011 10:17

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 22/09/2011 11:49

Hi Flamingobingo, we'll have a look at your tagline for you.

And ShirelyKnottage, your patience is greatly appreciated.

(and everyone else waves)

Horrormoanal1 · 26/09/2011 16:51

I'm very excited to be part of the network. A query though that other newbies might be wondering too: I haven't seen my latest post, "Flighty Birds" appear on the "recent posts" area yet, although I have the Mumsnet badge on my blog. Is there a time lag between updating blogs and the new posts appearing on the bloggers homepage? Also, my photo's not up yet, although I did email it. Sorry if I've asked this elsewhere and hello hello hello!

ElinorMumsnetBloggers · 26/09/2011 17:52

Welcome! And thanks for attaching your badge so fast Grin.

To answer your q about time lags and photos: we're a teeny team so some of the newbies might see a short gap between their welcome email and their arrival on the site, because one of us is reading all the potential blogs and the other's one activating all the new members and cutting their pictures. And we're a bit snowed under. But you'll be up there soon ...

Thanks. That's brilliant.

theperfectbadmummy · 28/09/2011 09:59

Oh excited finally had a free day to get my head round this. Thanks for the tips :)

Amodmillymum · 30/09/2011 23:59

A Modern Military Mother My badge is up and my new blog is live - altho still unfinished but good enough to go live!! I love it! I am so excited - it's been an epic journey!

Altho lord only knows what it's done to your RSS as have been jiggery poking all day!!

Horrormoanal1 · 01/10/2011 08:17

Hello there. I know you're busy and that and I tweeted a message about it but perhaps an explanation on here will benefit other newbies too: my most recent blog posts are not showing on the roll of new posts on this site and I wondered if there was an error in the badge code - perhaps I've cocked up. I'm still getting very low traffic onto my pages and I think much of this is just from Twitter rather than here, so any chance you could advise or look into how much of a luddite I'm being? Much ta.

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 03/10/2011 11:05

Hi Horrormoanal1,
We're a bit confused by your message, because your most recent post did appear in our roll of new posts - at the moment it's on Page 15 but it'll move further down as more people post. There's definitely not an error here or in the badge code!

Horrormoanal1 · 04/10/2011 10:54

Ah haaaa! I'm just stupid. They obviously move down the roll very quickly and I didn't spot it. Many many apologies and thanks for your patience.

TheFarSide · 05/10/2011 14:55

Hi - I emailed my photo and Twitter name over a week ago - just wondering if you got them - thanks
