Baby names

Anakin. Do you like it? (not with Skywalker as middle name. Nor Darth for that matter)

My DD1 (3 yrs) would love it because her dad has thoroughly indoctrinated her.

It sounds lovely, but I think it would forever be associated with the film.

Is it an actual name or was it made up for Starwars?

"What is wrong with it being associated with the Film? It was pure genius so surely a good thing to be associated with.
Personally I am not a fan of Anakin, especially when shortened to Ani.

Skywalker is much better!!"

This is the response from my Star Wars fanatical hubby. He seriously wants to call our future DS Skywalker. If we had twins he would like to call the other Darth.

Help. . . . . .!!!

It's not a problem for a name to be associated with a film, but this name is only known because of Star Wars as far as I know. You would be making a very clear decision for your child to be associated with a very well-known film.

Bill Bailey had a kid called Dax, because he loves Star Trek.
I kind of like it, people are happy to name their kids after characters in books, why not tv/films.

Ha ha - we had the same at our wedding!!

DH can't understand why I found a little bit of Star Wars hidden in our wedding funny but I still won't consider Skywalker as a name.

Reality - have you seen how many rebels there are in that youtube clip? Just think of trying to do the seating plan...

Reality - we were announcedto our guests as we sat down to the wedding breakfast and we entered to that music.

Most people know my DH has always been a huge Star Wars fan and got the joke.

I drew the line at exiting the church to a light sabre salute!!

Tried getting him to settle for Gerorge (as in Lucas), Luke or even Harrison after Mr Ford but none will do.

He is very persistent and I actually think only half joking - it meant that I went with him to register the birth of our first DS, just in case . . .

You could probably get away with it if the surname was right - something like Hafermann?

I love it. I'm a Star Wars geek, but I think it has a lovely sound with or without the SW connection.

I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to use it, but I do know an Anakin and it suits him.

Anakin is actually a lovely name in itself. DH's cousin said they were going to name DC3 Anakin. DC3 ended up a girl so they named her Annie (a lovely name!) so never found out if they were serious about it... To be fair, their DS1 was named Finlay WAY before it become popular so they may be on to something there...
