Come and indulge me - 2009 has been a shocker thus far and I need to think about lovely fluffy things like what to call dc2 :o)

dc2 due mid-September, 10+1 today

I have a dd, Lucy. Surname sounds a bit like Chaplin.

What shall I call her sibling? It will probably be something fairly traditional as dh has conservative tastes. FIL has already said he'd like a grandson called Thomas - I like Thomas but we have friends with Thomases so it's probably a non-starter. This is the only suggestion anyone has made so far.

I have no idea where to start! I just hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.. it's two weeks before I have my dating scan.

I'm on medication for HG, dh currently in hospital, both our jobs are at risk of redundancy. I want to think about nice things for a while

James Thomas (Surname)

DS1's middle name is Thomas, was always my choice for name, but DH's cousin is Thomas.

I have a close friend with a baby Edward!

William is good - I like Billy as a diminutive.

I need girls' names too!

We knew dd was going to be a girl after the 20wk scan so never discussed boys' names properly, although dh said he likes Aaron but it rhymes with our surname and sounds a bit matchy-matchy iyswim.

I liked Amelia but dh said no.

Margaret is MIL's name I'd like to use it as a middle name perhaps.

Alice Margaret is nice isn't it? Lucy and Alice. Hmmm

I like James, middle name would probably be RObert, after FIL, dh's middle name is Robert. ALexander, not sure, I think I know too many. You'd think I'd know more Jameses wouldn't you? I knew one when dd was a baby but I don't know any atm.

As a family we tend to pick a first name because we like it then choose a family name as a middle name.

A solid, traditional name, as yet unused by family and friends - it's tricky isn't it?

Joseph Robert. Is it a but tum-te-tum-te with a 2 syllable surname?

Imogen is lovely but I don't think dh would like it. Louisa - I like but want to avoid having the same initial as dd.

Elizabeth - ooh yes, and Beth for short

A friend of my mum called her baby Barnaby. Utterly, utterly wonderful name imo, especially with their single syllable surname. DH phsl

I shouldn't let him have a say should I?

NO, your DH shouldn't have a say!

Benedict is fabbo name in extreme, my Benedict is Benny normally, but I do love the name. Was surprised when DH agreed with me tbh, but may be becuase he hero worships Benedict Allen

I like Robert as a first name as well, though.

I have dd Lucy and ds is Tom. Just Tom, not thomas.

The names go beautifully IMO - so I wasn't surprised to see that shirley hughes wrote books called "Lucy and Tom".

I'm now pondering No. 3 (Sept like you). Girls am sorted for (and then some, so many lovely names). But boys' names - so difficult!

I have many male cousins and it seems to me that my aunts pinched the best names - Edward, William, James, Tom. I don't think I can get away with another. Charles? Peter? Joe?

My sister has a Lucie (half French) and her brothers are called Hugo and Thomas. Lucie's middle names are Constance Beatrice. They all "go" pretty well together. My DD is a Flora which also sounds good with Lucy/ie.

I was choosing names for my virtual twin girls yesterday and

Lucy and Abbie
although you might not want two -ie names
Lucy and Emma are pretty too
