Baby names

my other half has truly horrible taste in names.

For boys he likes: Ace, Slevin and Art.

I laughed until I realised that he was serious. It can't just be me that thinks this sounds like a joke list. Is it?

Also, he seems to think that my suggestion of Orla for a girl is laughable.

Marry him. You are made for each other

Sounds like a joke list to me too!

Maybe you could compromise with Arthur, nn Art? Orla is a perfectly nice name.

Ace, Slevin, Art

What is Slevin??? Isnt that a fungi or something?? The other two are just laughable either way.

DP's two favourite names for DS were Zebedee and Ozric.

We didn't use either.

Art is I guess short for Arthur which is a fine name.

Ace is a bit unusual...Slevin? eh?

What do you like? Orla is a bit unusual as well, but at least recognisable as a name...

Yeah, DH and I really struggled to agree on a girl's name for DS1 (luckily didn't need it obv)

Clary · 16/02/2009 23:04

Slevin?

Art, Art Garfunkel?

Ace, gotta be teased in the playground for that one?

Report
monkeyfeathers · 16/02/2009 23:07

I knew it couldn't just be me. Now he's sulking because no one said that they were wonderful names, although he might be starting to admit that Slevin is a silly name.

Tbh, I don't think I could live with Art even as a nickname. Also, the surname is going to be Ash, so the poor kid would be lumbered with Art Ash or Ace Ash as a name.

Apparently Art is after some famous jazz player. I'm still not willing to live with it though. I told him that if we ever get a dog he can call it Ace.

I can't believe some of the names other people's other halves have come up with. Anakin Peach may perhaps be the worst. What was he thinking.

Slevin? Blimey. Is he sober? Does he want his firstborn son to run away from home as soon as he can toddle, and never return Daddy's calls?

mf peach is actually oursurname LOL! kinda limiting, shallwesay!

pretty on a girl- so we have 4 boys.

Ace-hole (sorry, just reminded me of Red Dwarf). Ace Ventura. It is NOT good.

Art is short for Arthur so could work depending where you live and what sort of school the offspring will attend. (On the other hand, all those jokes about enjoying art lessons will get very tiresome.)

Is one of them called James, Peachy?

(OK, I know it must be the millionth time someone's said that, but couldn't stop myself!)

My husband suggested Gimli for a boy!

Report
monkeyfeathers · 16/02/2009 23:22

Peachy: wow, Peach is a pretty unusual surname. I can see that it would be more difficult with boys than girls.

edam: unfortunately he is completely sober. It's scary.
Luckily he's completely convinced that the baby is going to be a girl anyway. He hasn't come up with any girls names yet though. I dread to think what's coming.

My DS (from a previous relationship) is called Aidan, so I think Orla would go well. I have a feeling it's going to be far, far better than anything the other half suggests.

Now when I say that people dont get it LOL

edam i thought red dwarf too LOL
ace....... smoke me a kipper,i'll be back for breakfast

there'll always be someone who doesnt like your names: DS's hed asked me 'did oyu deliberately choose an S theme or did it just happen?'

The only one in her school at the time, ds3, is called Harold.

TBH I was thinking Ace as in Dr Who, and didn't get the Red Dwarf thing.

and I have to confess to wanting to call DS2 Estell for a short while... but not Gimli

Orla is nice though.
