Names for a girl - what do you think of...?

Have been snooping on Pgwithno3's thread. We too are stuck on names for a girl. Have picked out some of my favourites from her thread and added a couple that I've been thinking of. Middle name will definitely be Marie (it's a family thing) and I may put Claire in as well).

Wouldn't be averse to something a bit more Scandinavian as I'm half Swedish and DS has a Swedish name - but I have decided that's not going to be the primary focus of our quest for a name, although suggestions are welcome.

DH's cousin's children (although now older) are half Swedish - they are called Carly and Annalisa.

Quite like Esme and Celia (rather than Cecilia). Freya was our no1. girl name choice if DS had been a DD. Spent too long with it in my head now though and don't like it as much - and there are a lot of 'em around now.

Juliet, Nancy and Elsa are my favourites from your list, the others are ok; I wouldn't like Val as a nn for Valerie and I really don't like Frieda.

Do you think Ellen is just going to be confused with Helen? Another thread I read seemed to suggest this.

Anneliese is kind of on the list - I didn't put it in my original post, something's holding me back from it, not sure what.

I'm kind of going off Frieda as well - loved it for a long time during this pg but now not sure. I know what you mean about Valerie - but put it on the list as it's kind of appropriate for a baby with a mid-Feb due date.

No,not at all. Helen is ok too but Ellen just seems soft and/but classy.

Having said that, I didn't use it for either of my 2 DDs!

Annika is good - in a Pippi Longstocking way! My mum has suggested this and I do like it. I'm not crazy about her other favourite Swedish names which are Astrid, Ingrid, Maya and Anya.

Our surname is Malone. Does Nell Malone sound like something out of Dickens? I like it but it could be a bit comedy.

you could use it as a shortening for Helen/Helena or even Penelope or Penny

but I don't think it sounds bad at all

Helena Malone has a lovely ring to it and you could have Nell as a nn

Nell Malone sounds fab. I imagine her to be popular, feisty, pretty and fun.

I think Nell can easily be for Ellen though historically I think it's for Gwendolynn (sp?)

Florence / Flora - not for me. Flora is a margarine and opens the child up for legs spread easily jokes in later life imo.

Frieda - had a horrible neighbour called this so has bad associations for me.

Juliet(te)- prefer Julianna
Nancy - I like this, was my grannie's name

Valerie - not sure

Christina - prefer Christa

Ellen - quite like this but prefer Helen

Elsa - pretty but makes me think of Born Free
