It took us ages to name our DS - he had no name for two weeks so in the end I caved and went with an acceptable suggesstion from DH.

However he really does look like a name I had in mind for him but immediately rejected because I really felt it didn't fit with our surname at all.

So please tell me Wilfred Wilks would not have been a good idea. He really does look like a little 'Wilfie'.

We went with Michael by the way - it's OK he's gorgeous and it does suit him but still......

If it is relevant DDs are Emily and Poppy.

wilfred wiks does sound a little strange....sorry...

Michael is a nice classic name

You can still call him your little Wilfie

CatMandu · 25/09/2008 17:55

Wilfred Wilks sounds great to me, Wilfie Wilks sounds fab too - go for it.

LurleneLumpkin · 25/09/2008 17:55

No don't be sorry - it's what I thought in the first place and what I need to hear now

thank christ you didn't call him it.
it sounds like a comedy name!

michael much much better.

Fimbo · 25/09/2008 17:57

No Wilfred Wilks is not good (assumes this is not a wind-up).

Wilfie could be a nn for him though.

Oh poor you, mine's 16mo and I still wish I had called him Johnnie!

He really looks like one and I'm not sure if I like his name after all...

pooka · 25/09/2008 17:57

Wilfred Wilks not brilliant I am afraid. Bit Willy Wonka, like a made up roald-dahlesque name.

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 25/09/2008 17:57

Michael is better! (nothing against Wilfred in essence but it doesn't sound right with your last name!)
Loads of sweet abbreviations too, Mike, mikey etc.

Pushpinia · 25/09/2008 17:58

I also wanted Walter but there are just not enough children for the names I like...

2point4kids · 25/09/2008 17:58

Michael goes lovely with your surname and with your other childrens names!
Call him Wilfie as a nickname if you love it and he looks like one

Dragonbutter · 25/09/2008 17:58

they are both nice.

pooka · 25/09/2008 17:58

But it kind of goes with Lurlene Lumpkin!

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 25/09/2008 17:59

Wilfred Lumpkin is an excellent name

TheConfusedOne · 25/09/2008 18:01

OMG that was my GGgrandfathers name!

LurleneLumpkin · 25/09/2008 18:04

at Wilfred Lumpkin

I do like calling him Mike which surprises me - something offbeat about picking up a cute cuddly bundle and saying 'come on then Mike in your pushchair' . He was supposed to be 'Mikey' - the DDs call him that.

savoycabbage · 25/09/2008 18:04

I think it's lovely

I hate to depress you further but this happened to me and I was railroaded into a name by my dh. My dd is two in a week and I am still not used to it. I really wish I had changed it.

PoppyFox · 25/09/2008 18:07

Hmmm, I love Wilfie, but has that 'will date terribly' thing about it. Michael is very classic, you can't go wrong in life with a name like Michael. Nobody will ever make any assumptions about him. It's a good strong name and your 2nd choice?!

Mikey goes really well with Poppy and EMily.

LurleneLumpkin · 25/09/2008 18:07

He's nearly 4mo now - DH say's no way to a change (don't blame him) - think I'll use it as a pet name.

I refer to Poppy by her middle name a fair bit (because it is cool) and more often than not she gets called quaggle . If I call her by her name she says 'No, I'm quaggle!' Oh dear.......

PoppyFox · 25/09/2008 18:08

OH! Your sur name is Wilks? Oh thank goodness you went with Michael!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/09/2008 18:08

I love Wilfrid but only because my cat was called that

ellingwoman · 25/09/2008 18:12

He'll get called Wilkie by his schoolmates anyway - that's close enough.

Michael is a great name. Mike is good, Mikey is NOT (too many BB connections)

LurleneLumpkin · 25/09/2008 18:13

Hmmmm...maybe I've been watching too much of the DDs Brambley Hedge videos

OP posts:
LurleneLumpkin · 25/09/2008 18:15

Never watched BB so I have no knowledge of a Mikey on BB. I'm not too bothered about the opinions of those who watch it anyway [vast generalisation emoticon]

OP posts:
PoppyFox · 25/09/2008 18:16

Me neither, haven't watched that tosh since the second series. I wouldn't worry about that Lurlenelumpkin!!!
