Highly unlikely, since I was 13 at the time, but if I had, I have just discovered the beautiful 80s names my child would have been saddled with, listed in my diary for the year.Just in case they help anyone still searching for that ultimate name, I share them with you now.

Boys Top Ten - Gary; Mark; Paul; Tony; Scott; James; Ricky; Bobby; Jody; Shane

Girls Top Ten - Samantha; Sara; Sophia; Sandra; Charlotte; Charlene; Christelle; Killashandra shock blush; Dawn; Michelle

Ah, little Charlene Sandra Dawn and Shane Jody Scott. It was not to be.

I was teaching Reception in 1993, and we had lots of Charlenes, Scotts and Kylies - twas the 'Neighbours' influence, when everyone watched Neighbours in the late 80s grin

Having read Crystal Singer, I spat water on seeing Killashandra. Well, on the bright side, maybe she'd have ended up with perfect pitch. ;)

I had my baby names fixed in the early 1980s: Jacob and Lily. Not bad at all. Sadly, the rest of the world cottoned on and by the time I finally had my dd, 20 years later, I had to think of something else (which I did, though the rest of the world caught up with that too grin)

Killashandra will have its day, you mark my words grin

Great names

I was born in 89 and know a few Scotts, many many James-es ( just counted 6 in immediate family/friends) and a Jody.

From the girls list, a few Saras and lots of Charlottes smile

I was also 13 in 1988. My top names were Jack & Anna. Jack has been my number one boys name since I was 4 and my grandpa Jack died.

Fast forward to today, I have a 15 year old Jack but DD is not called Anna grin.

I remember having a list of names too when I was about 12 or 13. Unfortunately (or not, it was very cringy) one of my kids ripped my old diary up so I can't remember all the names.

There was Ashley for a boy and Charlotta for a girl! I have no girls anyway and none of my sons are called Ashley!

I was born in 1971 and my name is on your list!

I had DD in '87, had she been a boy she would be Ricky blush I thank my lucky stars every day!

I was born in 1977 and my name is on your list too!

Killashandra reminds me of a very non-PC Republican song called 'Come out ye black and tans' about the IRA....and 'the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra' lol

MaBaya Tue 09-Oct-12 16:52:31

I wanted a Gary, Ricky, Justin, Jason or Jamie. Or Calvin. Or possibly Matt after Matt Goss grin.

My daughter could only ever have been Charlene....

in the late 80's me and DH agreed that any future children would be Hannah Daisy and Thomas Edwin. They weren't!

We're you a spandau fan? I can't see Simon or John on the list?

My mid 1980's baby girl was going to be Sorrel, or Eloise, or Cordelia, he is called Edward.

thegreylady Tue 09-Oct-12 16:22:29

In 1965 I planned Nicola Robyn for a girl and Dominic James for a boy

kikid Tue 09-Oct-12 14:11:42

1985, holly, richard, hannah, rachel, ryan.

I was a young gal in the early to mid 70's and my favourite names were: Dirk and Tyrone for boys - donlt recall any girls names I wanted. As I grew into a teenager, the two names i was definitely going to call my babies were Kim (girl) and Leslie (boy). blush

Ahaha, you gave me a good laugh with Killashandra! She'd probably have got nicknamed 'Killer' or something equally fearsome at school and never forgiven you! wink

Badgerina Sun 07-Oct-12 19:39:56

Who was "Ashandra" and why did you want to kill her??? shock grin

Inneedofbrandy Sun 07-Oct-12 17:05:25

GW297 Nope my name is not a G name

AThingInYourLife Sun 07-Oct-12 17:03:08

I think Killashandra needs to go into the MN names finder.

Dogsmom Sun 07-Oct-12 16:59:56

I was born mid 70's and all my life said the names I'd choose would be Aaron and Emma, the boys name went out of the window when we moved in opposite 'child from hell' named Aaron.

I'm currently pregnant with a girl and still plan to use the name Emma.

GW297 Sun 07-Oct-12 12:10:11

Inneedofbrandy - does it begin with g?!

WantAnOrange Sun 07-Oct-12 11:40:32
