I want a 2 syllable male name starting with Bran- not Brandon, Brannon or Branson (as those have all been vetoed by dh). Have your books got any other choices?

Also I need 2 syllable 'K' or hard 'C' name, like Kenneth (which dh also vetoed as sounding 30's middle class), for a middle name...

(My original thought was Brannon William Kenneth) but like I said dh was all :( abt the B and the K names...

I am stumped on the two syllable Bran name.

For middle names I can offer:

Calvin
Kendall
Ciaran/Kieran
Conrad
Curtis

Bran(something) William Conrad?

notanumber · 14/04/2011 11:09

Wait!

Brando (A Streetcar Named Desire )
Branwell (nice literary link)

Why so set on Bran(something)?

notanumber · 14/04/2011 11:13

Ok, I'm not wild about the names tbh (not that you asked, but it's all about meeeeeee, innit) but I would favour:

Branwell Conrad William.

bebemooneedsabreak · 14/04/2011 11:20

Branwell is interesting- too like Bramwell apples??
Wanted Bran-X because I like the name Bran (which Dh has agreed on, but it feels funny as a first name because it's single syllable and I know I'd end up lengthening it somehow or another anyhow... Oh, and PIL went strongly :( :( at it).

The hard 'C' or 'K' names rolls of the tongue nicely with our last name thus the positioning.

Branwell as in Branwell Brontë. He was a painter and poet (and the brother of the writers Charlotte, Emily, and Anne)

What bout Branflake? Grin

bebemooneedsabreak · 14/04/2011 11:24

P.s. wanted things welsh origins if possible (for dh's family) but easy for my American family to pronounce (thus not too welsh)

bebemooneedsabreak · 14/04/2011 11:26

what like 'Branflake?' that's what the PIL said Wink never seen MIL face so :( before actually

Tuggy · 14/04/2011 11:29

bebemooneedsabreak · 14/04/2011 11:31

Ok. So Bran in all its forms is out then.

Good. Bran is not really very nice.

There are lovely Welsh names out there. How about Brynn (not too far off Bran Smile)?

Janoschi · 14/04/2011 12:09

Kendrick for a middle name?

notanumber · 14/04/2011 12:10

Dylan William Carter

Drew William Carter

Rhys William Carter

Penn William Carter

I'm trying to satisfy the Cymry/American requirements and also tap into your taste... Am I off beam?

Janoschi · 14/04/2011 12:12

Branton could be a suggestion...?

Also how about Bram, ie Abraham?

bebemooneedsabreak · 14/04/2011 12:16

I truly feel the need for 2 syllables for first name. Dylan is too normal... and it would get shortened to Dill

and :P :P Wink about missing out on Bran.

EricNorthmansMistress · 14/04/2011 12:19

If you like welsh, how about Bryn? I really like it, and it's a complete name. Bran sounds silly IMO, it's a foodstuff, not a name. I do like Branwell because of the Bronte connection but all your other Bran names are a bit...well Grin

Bram is also an alternative, as in Dracula Grin I'd totally go for that.

PaganOfBologna · 14/04/2011 12:20

Bryn is lovely Smile

Bran from the Welsh for Raven is actually pronounced with a long a sound Braaaan, not like it is in Brandon etc.

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2011 12:23

The apples are called Bramley, not Bramwell.

Is Branwen a name? Sounds like it could be, could be a bit Welsh.

I like Branwell.

bebemooneedsabreak · 14/04/2011 12:29

Bryn is a girl's name in America and was vetoed with the first baby, tho I might bring it up again.

Do you mean Bran would sound more like Brains? lol good Welsh connection Wink

This is nothing like you have asked for but a welsh name I found in my baby names book and loved it!

Madoc?

meditrina · 14/04/2011 12:38

Abraham shortened to Bram?

With Kenelm, Cedric, Cillian, Caradoc?
