The song is called 'Girl Power':
'We have got the brains
We have got the skill
We have even got the brawn
We don't need a man, that's overkill
And besides, they make us yawn'
And
'We have got the strength
The mental push
We have got the driving steam
We don't need a man with brains of mush...'
And
'We can do anything better than you, better than you'
DS is 6. AIBU in thinking that this isn't a great message to be sending out to young children? That one sex is 'better than' the other?

No, it's a crap message, and bloody "Girl Power" it seems to me, is in danger of creating a bunch of mouthy rude girls.
yanbu i would not like that either
if it was done the other way round insulting girls, someone would have complained. so why is it seen as acceptable to insult boys these days??

<is aware she sounded quite mouthy and rude in her last message >

Empowering women isn't achieved by slagging men off, and one would hope that a school would realise this and act accordingly. YANBU.

GOD IS NOT A MAN - how very dare you .....
its totally shit - and i would be v. concerned actually - and i am usually as laid back as a parent can get - but i do have an issue becuaes boys are failing at school - and for school to reinforce this message is totally shit.
if i had a ds - i would be outraged.

I have two DSs and have been surprised by how much anti-boy sentiment is out there. some of it perpetuated by mothers themselves. Boys are like dogs, boys are noisy, boys are aggressive etc.

OMG. Serious lapse in judgement here by all responsible, on a lot of levels. First the anti-boy venom, and then the idea of a 6 yo needing a man. And what has this got to do with nativity?

I think that is awful. YANBU

is this one of the plays the kids write themselves? (we always have some very wierd and wonderful storylines) - is there a reply from a boys POV, or is the "moral" that this attitude is wrong?
[clutching at straws trying to find an excuse for why this would be allowed]

A six year old's Xmas play?
Horrible for anyone to sing ever, let alone at this age.
DD is singing "quick, quick, go on to Bethlehem" in her school piece. I think I prefer that, I do hope there isn't a "Mary had the baby and the rest of you are useless gits" song

Is the song part of the plot? Is it the pirate girls wanting not to be led by a male pirate? Then it would be more acceptable as the song would be in character.
Sometimes teacher really haven't thought some stuff through. I say this as a teacher. I supply taught once at a school and they were doing Grease for their Y6 show. I casually asked what they were going to do about certain sexual lyrics and plot lines and they all looked blank as if it never crossed their minds.
Am not a prude by the way just hate that sexualisation of pre-pubesecent kids. Like primary school having proms.

Golly. What's the rest of the script like? Is there an equally 'amusing' (ho ho not very ho) song in response?
Wonder whether there's a teacher feeling a bit bruised by a recent divorce or something...

What does this song have to do with Christmas?

ihatemyjob I was 7 when Grease came out and went to see it at the cinema. The sexy stuff went completely over my head. I was really surprised about the condom in the car bit when I saw it later. I had no recollection of it. We did delight in shouting "Shit" and "Tit" during Greased Lightening, though (not in front of parents ...)
