YANBU.

Immensely over-rated in my opinion - and the films are pure gash.

YANBU

I watched one last week for the first time on TV, it was dreadful, the acting was rubbish and I waited an hour for a storyline, then gave up and watched Total Wipeout.

My friend made me read the first book last year, as she gasped in horror that I hadn't read any. I can see how it would appeal to a child, but I found the writing drab and the story dull. The films are ok, but I wouldn't spend money to go and see it in the cinema.

But I do often feel that I am very possibly the only person in the whole world to feel that way!

I only read the first book and thought it was crap. Mind you, I caught the first half of the movie the other night and thought it looked much more exciting. It was in French though, so a bit hard for me to follow as my french wizard/spell making vocab is not up to scratch. . Dd loved it though and has asked if we can get the dvd. Much preferably to me having to read the tosh book to her at bedtime in mho.

Well I know that, Riven! But there is no topic entitled 'Am I Being Completely Wierd?' otherwise I'd have posted there

I have never read a HP book, nor watched a film all the way through

Lord Of The Rings leaves me cold too.....

Am not a fan of childish fantasy stories, am more of a gritty reality kinda girl

I tink people who don't like HP expect to much it is what it is.
I like it and think it got and is still getting lots of children who might not normally read to read which in my opinion is a good thing.
The films are only ok but then I rarely like the film of a book.

Agree with notsoteenagemum about encourageing reading etc but god does it all have to be so dull. I mean leaden. Heavy. really slow going. Completely lacking in any forward movement.

And so big. And heavy. Harry Potter and the Cumbersome Read dear god.

DH had to go with his mates to see the last one. I refused. He has the downloads legally purchased DVD's lined up at home all ready for me when I consent to watch em...

it's all pish

the films

the books

(and more importantly, not aimed at adults - there must be a better way to access your inner child than reading HP books on the tube ffs)

I can't stand the little brat or his snobby bloody school.

I also hate that it was so blatantly written with an eye on the movies

But I also dislike Roald Dahl's stories. So I am beyond the pale. So far none of my DC are that bothered about HP, unlike Dahl (I had to read those endlessly).

And I agree that it is for children but it's become a sort of limbo kidult thing. Something I also dislike.

I'm with AnyFucker!

I sat through all of the LOTR films at the pictures to humour dh. The last one I was heavily pg and needed the toilet. A lot. When Frodo was agonising over whether to throw the ring in the fire thing at the end, I had to hold myself back from shouting "Just fucking do it will you! I don't care, I just need a piss!"

I've discouraged DH from purchasing the DVDs...
