OK, my cat's normally goes in and out during the day.... this morning came downstairs and one of them has got some tinsel sort of stuff hanging out of his bum... basically he's eaten some tinsel type of stuff (he's an odd cat i know) and he's half pooed it out (sorry if TMI) the other half is stuck inside his bum still... before DH left for work he held him and i got marigolds on and tried to pull the rest out, but its basically stuck till he next needs to 'go' i expect.

I dotn want him sitting in the house with some poo-ey minging tinsel hanging out of his bum so have thrown him out for the day.... its been raining pretty hard, and he's been meowing at the front and back doors all day!!! He can get into the shed so has some shelter....

However i'm starting to feel sorry for the poor bugger... AIBU to leave him out for nearly 10hrs solid now???

if you can't pull it out, are you going to take him to the vet?

YANBU not to want the whole pooey tinsel / moany cat scenario in your house, but you might have to seek professional help to do something about it.

And I speak as one who is not a feline sympathiser!

i was hoping it'd be out by this evening... i'm going away for the night tomorrow... so if he needed to go to the vet it'd ahve to be first thing tomorrow!!! argh!!

I'm at such a loss of what to do- this has never happened before- he's not meowing in pain with it, he doesn't seem at all bothered by it!! He's just meowing to come inside!!

i'm hoping when DH gets home we can have another shot at pulling it out, it looks further out than it was this morning...

Yes please be gentle it may be wrapped around his insides.

Take him to the vet.

Nice way to treat a cat in trouble .

Just tried phonig the vets, they closed at 5.30, and it'd have to be a call-out vet which i can't afford to pay really...

My thinking is that because it looks like most of it is outside it'll be that the little bits left inside will be just stuck inside his poo...

Why do i need to have a silly cat who eats tinsel... i dont even know where he's got tinsel from!!

Please take him to the vet. Animals often don't complain when they're in pain. I really don't think it's a good idea to try and pull it out. >ouch!< The vet would probably give you some free advice over the phone before going down the expensive call out option.

Maybe he was trying to decorate in your absence - as a surprise .

Seriously though - it could be serious for him

Apparently one of the most common vet probs over Christmas - that and chocolate poisoning in dogs!

he has a very good, varied diet... he's just odd, always tries to eat things like the thin curling ribbins for wrapping presents etc, so we can't have them in the hosue any more... can't have tinsel on the tree either...

It looks like the stringy tinsel that you rip off and sprinkle over your tree, single thread of the stuff, and looks like there is about 3 strings of it... DH suggested cutting it tongiht, hoping he's pooed the rest out by morning and then if not get him in with vet first thing...

I dont mean to sound heartless if thats how i'm coming across, he's had food and water outside the back door all day, has been eating fine. I love my cats, but nothing like this has ever happened, so i haven't a clue what else to do!!

Your cat has a festive bum and you shove it outside.
That's not very Christmassy.
You grinch.

Can I ask that nobody messes around with their cat's bum?
No pulling pushing or poking ta very much.

I think you are a bloody awful cat owner and to put the cat outside reeks of selfishness-i hope your neighbours have reported you

Jesus Portly!!! Thansk for that link!! Maybe we'll ahve to use the last of our savings to sort it but that doesn't sound good at all!!

FWIW i didn't full it properly this morning, just lightly to see if anythign was loose enough to come out...

my poor boy... will cut the bits off tonight and get him in 1st thing if the rest hasn't come out by then!!

silly silly cat!! I remember the first eyar we had him and we had the tree up and he kept pulling it off, the amount of times i had to pull it from his mouth!!

But never has he eaten it before!!

my thinkign is a neighbour might have cleared out their decs or somethign and he's found it on that?? i know i have none in my house!!!

Glaskam.
Rather you have given the cat the opportunity to roam free.
Please ask Tiddles if he would like to accompany me on m'polar trip with Ben Foggle and Crackers.

I meant 'you grinchj' with wit, not grit. nor being a bit of a shit.

why am i a bloody awful cat owner? i put him outside becasue i have 2 under 4's and dont want him sitting on something and getting poo on it!! If any of the kids touched it then that would surely be 10x worse!!

In the 5 years i've had my cats nothing like this has ever happened!!!!

my cat is always outside, except in deepest coldest winter so I dont think its mean to leave a cat outside. But my cat is a fussy little thing, doesn't like to be touched or messed with.

you need to sort out the tinsel though.

I remember my aunts dog eating a pair of tights, she regularly had to help out stuff from the dogs bum (tights, plastic bags etc)

hes outside meowing like mad cos hes got tinsel stuck up his arse and probably all around his intestines and you shove him out.....cats do roam freely i know but ones in discomfort need looking after

He's never stayed out during the night... so i'll defo be cutting the offending articles out of his bum and letting him in for the night, but will be closing all doors so he only has access to the bathroom (where the litter trays are) and the hallway... the other 2 will have to endure it aswell...

maybe there's something a cat can eat that will make him 'go' a bit quicker... like cabbage does for humans??? or will that only make things worse??
