AIBU to not see all the threads about this now acquitted Dragon? Where is the outrage?

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 29-Jan-16 18:56:09

I'm in Canada so didn't hear about this. www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-35437118 How the hell was he acquitted when he had sex with a 13 year old?

CarbonEmittingPenguin Fri 29-Jan-16 19:29:18

I only heard the news this afternoon so it was only a matter of time before there was a thread on it. Maybe there already is in the news section.

He was acquitted because it was legally defensible that he did 'reasonably' believe the girl was over 16 as they'd been chatting on a website aimed at adults.

He, however, will always be a dirty scumbag imo.

No defence at all. Disgraceful

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 29-Jan-16 19:37:26

So if a bar serves a 13 year old, they would be fined because it's their fault they didn't ID but someone having SEX with a 13 YEAR OLD is fine as long as they say they thought a child was 16? In his fucking 50s. Urgh. I need a shower.

AlwaysHopeful1 Fri 29-Jan-16 19:39:55

How disgusting! Even worse he walked out holding his wife's hand. What an idiot she is.

YakTriangle Fri 29-Jan-16 19:43:25

He paid for sex with a young teenage girl and got her to send him naked pictures. He's a disgusting individual regardless of whether he's been found guilty of anything. At least his reputation is destroyed and people know how revolting he is. I can't imagine why his wife would stand by him after this.

Gunting Fri 29-Jan-16 19:44:32

Whether he knew she was 13 or not is really not the point. He had sex with an underage girl so he should be prosecuted

WMittens Fri 29-Jan-16 20:17:29

Whether he knew she was 13 or not is really not the point.

It is the point, though. If she misled him (by signing up to an adult website and checking the "confirm you're over 13/16/18" checkbox) and it was reasonable for him to assume she was over said age, then he was lied to. A 50 year old seeking out a 17 year old is another matter, but that would not be a legal matter.

He was prosecuted confused He was found to be not guilty.

JaneHair Fri 29-Jan-16 20:21:47

She was only 5ft and weighed 6 stone. Surely her body would have seemed under developed for the age she was claiming to be?

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 29-Jan-16 20:24:54

If we think 13 year old girls aren't mature enough to have sex, we presumably also think that sometimes they make poor choices (like lying about their age). I lied about mine consistently as a teen. For a 57 year old to pretend that he didn't know that she might be younger is total bullshit. It behooved him to know.

I ID-ed DH the first time I went home with him. For my safety rather than his. It's not unheard of.

JingsAndCrivens Fri 29-Jan-16 20:27:04

I knew there was a trial ongoing but I didn't realise he'd been found not guilty.

That's really depressing. But sadly not shocking.

He is a paedo. 13 year old girls do not look like grown women, particularly when they are five feet tall and weigh less than 6 stone. There are 11 year olds in my dds school taller and heavier than that. He even asked her what she was doing after school. Vile.

SirVixofVixHall Fri 29-Jan-16 20:31:40

I think that Jordan's daughter is very obviously a small girl with a lot of slap on. Not a teenager. 13 is year 8, or the younger end of year 9. They still look really young. At 15, maybe some girls look like women, but at 13? No.

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 29-Jan-16 20:35:39

Is there some reason that 57 year old men can't be held to the same sort of standard as a bloody off-licence? If someone looks under 25, ID them.

LurcioAgain Fri 29-Jan-16 20:39:30

That photo of Jordan's daughter clearly looks like a child pretending to be an adult by wearing lots of makeup.

Surely it behoves adult men to err on the side of caution - if you are 57 and the woman looks under 25, don't stick your dick in her.

I'm sure there's a fancy legal term for a crime where mens rea doesn't come into it, but I can't remember what it is - but I personally think under a certain age, and I think 13 is a reasonable cut-off - what the man thinks to have been the case should be utterly irrelevant. The fact that the child was, as a matter of material fact, only 13, should be enough to secure a conviction.

JingsAndCrivens Fri 29-Jan-16 20:42:32

Apparently he met up with over 100 young women from this website and I presume had sex with a significant number. How can his wife stand by him?

How can his wife stand by him? To misquote Mrs Merton... Why would the wife stand by her husband with a net worth of $75 million?

MrsTerryPratchett Fri 29-Jan-16 20:45:47

Today's installment "every man is a paedophile regardless of the circumstances" Just those who have sex with 13 year olds.

I went out clubbing at 14. And was hit on by perverts. I looked like I could be 18 but realistically, could have been 14 as well.

He had sex with a 13 year old. He's a grown man. He should have checked. If you know that 13 year olds sometimes look older, why didn't he? She was 13.

cleanmachine Fri 29-Jan-16 20:52:17

I'm amazed he was found not guilty. She must have had the body of a child being 6 stone. Tiny. And he mentioned that he was into dominant/submissive sex which makes it even more unbearable. Creep.

Flashbangandgone Fri 29-Jan-16 20:56:57

Why indeed... Imagine the divorce settlement... Set up for life (and some) without having to spend moment with that pervert!
