AIBU?

to consider spending my bonus on something frivolous?

at the end of the month I will be receiving a work related bonus which will just about scrape into 4 figures (by a few pennies) after tax.

I am waiting to buy my exP out of our house, but as he is a complete tosserwon't accept any reasonable offers that is stalemated, and likely to be for some time. Now I could just put the money towards that, it's what I've done with any bonus I've received in past years, but I actually feel like just blowing some of it on something a bit silly, and entirely for myself. not least because I work bloody hard (am out of the house 11-12 hours a day) and am a LP to 2 teenagers, which is also not easy! So AIBU?

And if I am, what would you do with the money?

I should add that I am able to buy Exp out by increasing mortgage and using other savings, so the bonus wouldn't make the difference between being able to and not, iyswim.

The other thing I should add is that my house is a building site, and needs £s spent on it to finish it (but I am reluctant to do much to it while Exp and I are still negotiating over the value...as the less its worth the less I have to pay him etc)

Go for it! It's your money, you worked hard for it and it sounds like you can afford to be a bit frivolous, so I why not?! What have you in mind? [nosey]

What do you fancy?

My entire bonus will go on a tax bill. Sad

So I am happy living vicariously through you!

Sounds like you need a little holiday?

a few years ago I got a (just) 4 figure bonus, and I spent it on the most amazing bed.

Last year I got a similar figure and frittered it away on work on our house, Xmas presents etc. I really regretted frittering it away rather than buying one much wanted item.

so treat yourself in a way you'll remember! Grin

Holiday, weekend away, spending spree on clothes.

I'd buy a handbag.

How about sponsoring a panda?

It would make me a little bit less sad.

If it were me I'd go away somewhere, go and see the northern lights, or get some sun somewhere. Is there anywhere you've always wanted to go?

Ha ha panda what's the point, she'll only get a letter in a few months saying her pandas probably dead

:(

I think the OP should buy a handbag made out of polar bear fur.

A diamond ring, at the auction, so you can afford it. Will last you a life time, make you happy each day it twinkles at you and worst case scenario can be pawned or sold!

Or a polar bear skin rug at the auction :)

I intend to blow a big chunk of my bonus on shoes and sparkly stuff! Grin Grin

aah Panda. How much does it cost to sponsor one? One of my good friends adores pandas and went all the way to China to cuddle a baby one (well, not just for that reason but it was the highlight of her trip!)

I was thinking spending some of it on Botox or fillers, but have been talked out of it! I would love veneers, but can't afford that on the bonus alone, so am considering hair extensions and semi permanent false eyelashes. I wear the temporary eyelashes all the time so I thought it was worth it...and I'd love longer hair. It is completely frivolous though and a real waste of about £300 Blush

I did have a diamond ring (my engagement ring, bought it myself thanks again for that Ex! it got stolen a few years ago) if I'm going to have a big ring again I'd rather someone else bought it for me. Not that there's much chance of that mind you!

I would be going on a hiking trip around Norway or Argentina (that's what I'm doing when my endowment matures next year!)

Definitely something just for you alone, I have today spent my (expected) bonus on a bag. Rather egged on by DD (who will borrow it) and even DS said "well done Mum about time"so feeling quite chuffed.

YANBU Spend it on you.

I once had enough to buy myself a pair of diamond studd earrings. I also had a skint sister who was struggling to feed herself and DN. while I was more than happy to help and never expected to get anything back, I still want those earrings. Never been able to afford them since. Don't miss out on treating yourself in and then regret it later.

I am already going on hols with the DC in the summer. I'm not really a holiday person, one a year is fine for me.

I think I might get the hair even if I do end up looking like mutton dressed up as lamb

Pandas are pointless. They are yesterday's news. Spend it on a sexy handbag and a bottle of champers to drink whilst staring at it.

Definitely spend it on yourself, you've earned it so splash out Smile
