....to be even more irritated by the fact that the person who was just saying it was my Health Visitor?!

I have never met her, managed to dodge that bullet for 2 years grin But on the phone she says this and REALLY annoys me!

I am probably BU but it really winds me up!

No I agree YANBU IMO

PickledInAPearTree Fri 25-Jan-13 14:44:02

My midwife said to open my iccle legs when I was in labour. She was lucky to survive tbh.

FeckOffCup Fri 25-Jan-13 14:44:16

YANBU. My bugbear is "gawjus" it makes me want to slap the user of it very hard.

Ikkle is just the absolute pits. I have one particular friend who aways refers to her kids as ikkles.....I pull her up on it every time smile

TheRobberBride Fri 25-Jan-13 14:45:57

No YANBU. ''Ikkle' sets my teeth on edge. In much the same way as referring to children as 'smalls' does.

Samnella Fri 25-Jan-13 14:46:03

YANBU.

It is up there with hun as far as I am concerned.

Bogeyface Fri 25-Jan-13 14:46:21

I think the fact that she is a HV annoys me more because, and this IS the I bit, it makes me question her professional abilities if she can't even pronounce little properly!

I think that MW would have been kicked in the face if that had been me Pickled!

Bogeyface Fri 25-Jan-13 14:46:39

This is the "U bit not I bit!

Theladyinpurple Fri 25-Jan-13 14:47:23

YADNBU. Hate it

JoinTheDots Fri 25-Jan-13 14:47:39

YANBU my FIL says it about DD, makes me grind my teeth every time

WorraLiberty Fri 25-Jan-13 14:50:09

'Arks' instead of 'ask' winds me the fuck up...it really does.

When my DS2 was in reception, he kept saying it because his TA did angry

wineandroses Fri 25-Jan-13 14:50:40

My particular dislike is people who say 'Arksed' instead of 'Asked'. I hear it more and more often; most annoying.

Also, someone I used to work with would say 'Mort-gauge' instead of 'Mortgage'.

wineandroses Fri 25-Jan-13 14:51:06

Oh cross-post with Worra.

Charlie01234 Fri 25-Jan-13 14:59:37

And Hospickle instead of Hospital. Drives me crazy ...... SPEAK PROPERLY!!!!

BridgetBidet Fri 25-Jan-13 15:08:42

You live in Yorkshire don't you. grin. I do too. It makes me want to kill people.

As does bokkle, hospickal, kekkle and whater. Oh and you put oil in your car, it's not something you dig.

Charlie01234 Fri 25-Jan-13 15:13:50

I am in Yorkshire but I think this is something more likely to be heard in Manchester/Oldham?? Always think of Ashley from Coronation Street! My husband thinks I am being very unreasonable but it is something I would put firmly in my room 101.

spatchcock Fri 25-Jan-13 15:17:23

YADNBU. And shock at the midwife who used this word in a labour situation!

manicbmc Fri 25-Jan-13 15:21:58

Hospickle, Likkle, Lellow - hate it, hate it so much. Almost forgiveable if you are 7 or younger.

I know a few kids who have had endless speech therapy, when it came to light that they say these words as they do because their mother is a dimwit who talks in baby-speak to them. hmm

PessaryPam Fri 25-Jan-13 15:33:41

Arks is the Jamaican way of saying ask.

suburbophobe Fri 25-Jan-13 15:39:53

And likkle is Jamaican patois for little.

So maybe your HV is from there? (You say you've never met her).

WorraLiberty Fri 25-Jan-13 16:18:57

What makes me laugh about most of the people I know who say 'arks' is that they've never been outside of England...so it's not as though it's a phrase they were used to saying all their lives.

thebody Fri 25-Jan-13 16:23:57

Agree 'arks' very annoying.

Ickle is vile but a mom at our school calls her dds bubbas.. They are a well grown 7 and 9. Want to spit at her.

I do say 'binockears' for binoculars though. Not sure why.

Bogeyface Fri 25-Jan-13 18:34:41

My husband is Jamaican and it winds him up too. She wasnt using any other patois, so I doubt she is Jamaican but will let you know if she does indeed turn out to be!

Bella88 Fri 25-Jan-13 18:50:07

Skellington and chimley are equally as nauseating.

Thick cunts! angry
