West of UK that is. Not Wild West or East of the sun West of the moon.

Anyway. If you are Western can you go and give blood please (if at all posdible).

Local news just said there's a bit of a shortage.

Thanks.

Why can't you give if you have received a blood transfusion?

MammaTJ Fri 09-Nov-12 06:30:33

I'm in the South West but lost a lot of blood when having my DS and had it replaced!! sad

Everlong Fri 09-Nov-12 06:16:11

I'm north west.

I'll sort it out wink

weegiemum Fri 09-Nov-12 03:54:57

I'm west - but western scotland!

Can't donate as I get a treatment for neuro issues once a that's blood based, so don't want my blood, organs or bone marrow not that anyone would want my liver anyway

brighthair Fri 09-Nov-12 03:51:31

North west but I've had a piercing recently sad
Does anyone know if you can donate if you are on medication? I've never donated but want to, I take antihistamines and beta blockers and citalopram

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles Fri 09-Nov-12 03:36:17

I do but I'm higher than south west. Sorry

sparkleyangel Fri 09-Nov-12 01:33:01

I cant give because Ive had three blood transfusions. At this rate with the recent rules there will be no one left to give blood, what the hell are we going to do then?

monsterchild Fri 09-Nov-12 01:25:23

California see if they haven't changed those rules. I was also in the UK during the mad cowness, but am now clear to donate. sadly everyone with my blood type seems to be the giving type, so they aren't taking me now. (I'm in the Wild West).

And in the US, you only get paid for plasma, not whole blood.

MummysHappyPills Fri 09-Nov-12 01:22:13

And I know it is a slightly naughty way of looking at it, but I always imagine all the calories I will burn up replenishing those blood cells! wink not sure if it works that way or not! grin

MummysHappyPills Fri 09-Nov-12 01:20:08

I really think that anyone who can give blood, should.

Even me who technically should be able to finds that half the time I show up there is some reason I can't. Either slightly low haemoglobin, or been poorly recently, or of course when I was pg or bfing ( though I believe you can give after 9 months and lo is on solids).

Therefore it is so important everyone who can does donate. That reminds me I really must book myself in! I had an op not so long ago, but think I should be ok to donate now. (They may have other ideas when I get there of course, but at least I'llhave tried!) grin

I am in the south west, pretty sure they can always put it to some use! grin

sashh Fri 09-Nov-12 01:13:43

I can't give either.

Imperial

Stuff the tea and biscuits - going out for a drink afterwards is always fun.

ripsishere Fri 09-Nov-12 00:49:20

I don't think being born in a malarial area rules you out.
When we lived in Thailand, I donated regularly. I haven't been able to do it since then.
All the countries we've lived in assume I have vCJD.

Jojoba1986 Fri 09-Nov-12 00:16:26

I was booked in to give blood for the first time ever after years of low folate, under weight-ness & 1 pregnancy... then I got bitten by an insect which got infected & I finished my antibiotics on the day of my appointment. 2 weeks later, & before they had any more appointments, I got pregnant again! True story! I send DH to be bled dry regularly though!

BegoniaBampot Fri 09-Nov-12 00:14:06

'I've been meaning to. live in the west and O Neg. Right, really going to do it this time.

StuntGirl Fri 09-Nov-12 00:09:21

I am not in the south west but give regularly anyway. Last time they couldn't take it though, the iron count was too low. Imperial, will they take yours in future or are you now forever a blood donating outcast? I am worried I will end up that way too! sad

Cluffyfunt Thu 08-Nov-12 23:55:25

I'll do it.
Haven't given blood for a few years due to pregnancy(s) ect.

Cozy9 Thu 08-Nov-12 23:51:31

Why don't they pay people for it like in America?

nokidshere Thu 08-Nov-12 23:51:02

I live in the West but they wont have mine sad

DorsetKnob Thu 08-Nov-12 23:47:12

I haven't for years but will get my huge arse into gear.

How much blood do they take? I think I can spare a little bit.

CaliforniaLeaving Thu 08-Nov-12 23:37:53

So what are the rules as to who can or can't give blood?
I can't give blood here (US) because I lived in UK during whatever years all that mad cow stuff was going on. They want non of my good stuff.

FrillyMilly Thu 08-Nov-12 23:01:07

I'm a bit scared about giving because since I last gave blood I had a pregnancy where I was constantly told my veins are rubbish and I'm down to the last one before they use my hands/feet!
