Or this an over-sexualised image advertising a girls top in the 6+ range?

This
DD is taller than average at age 5 and wears 6/7 clothes sometimes 8 - I know the age group for this particular range includes teens but even so I just feel that this image is just a little too much. AIBU?

IQuiteLikeVodka Sun 12-Feb-12 19:48:52

no

IQuiteLikeVodka Sun 12-Feb-12 19:49:47

yes you are being unreasonable....no,to the OP question (my opinion)

troisgarcons Sun 12-Feb-12 19:50:01

no

its garish, tasteless and ugly but not sexualising

Kayano Sun 12-Feb-12 19:50:47

She is just standing there! YABU

SydneyB Sun 12-Feb-12 19:51:43

Interesting. There's just something about the way she's standing. Obviously I'm way outta date..

Kayano Sun 12-Feb-12 19:53:10

Yes hmm it's totally a modern thing for her to be standing there confused

?

Avenged Sun 12-Feb-12 19:54:57

In what way would you say it was sexualising OP? It looks like a top which could be worn to a birthday party in the summer. Apart from that, I can't for the life of me see how it is sexualising a young girl of 6+.

Birthdaybump2012 Sun 12-Feb-12 19:55:24

I don't think it's sexual, but it's not really a great picture as troisgarcons said.
I don't think it is a modern think, just not a good picture

entropygirl Sun 12-Feb-12 19:55:51

Gosh well I disagree with everyone (unusual no?). Maybe it's because I haven't seen any music videos recently....I mean if you watch people all but shagging on screen enough then I guess this image doesnt look that sexual. But if you don't then Im afraid it definitely does.

All manner of wrong IMO

Birthdaybump2012 Sun 12-Feb-12 19:56:18

I can see where you got that from though OP.

piratecat Sun 12-Feb-12 19:57:11

it's a bit pouty mouthy isn't it.

early kate moss ish.

AlwaysWild Sun 12-Feb-12 19:57:15

Yanbu

What do you mean by you being out of date?

Like others have said she is just standing, she not pouting or thrusting her breasts at the camera.

Infact she looks just like a normal moody teenager! grin

MilkywaysAndBump Sun 12-Feb-12 19:58:37

I don't see the problem...but I recently got the new Vertbaudet catalogue through the door, and was shocked to find THIS....This is far more inappropriate than your link IMO.

piratecat Sun 12-Feb-12 19:59:10

but as op said the clothes are for girls younger than teens too.

a nice smiley one would give it more appeal, to the whole age range

It seems quite a mature pose, but not sexual, no.

She's obviously been watching ANTM for inspiration smile

SydneyB Sun 12-Feb-12 19:59:48

Sorry, I didn't put that well by saying 'outta date'. I guess I mean I'm not sure what's appropriate for teens to wear these days, it being a very long time since I was one and am not quite in that world yet with DD.

There's just something 'come hither' about that picture, I don't know..

piratecat Sun 12-Feb-12 19:59:58

the bikini a naf oh dear

entropygirl Sun 12-Feb-12 20:00:06

You can stand around just standing and smiling a bit, with no obvious make up on (or better yet doing something that 5/6 yo might be doing like playing house or chatting or something), or you can be standing around pouting with make up on which no 5/6 yo should be doing.

They have gone for a rock chick look/pose. If you look through the poses on the bottom for other tops, you see the difference in this.

It might be pure marketing, if the teenage sizes are not selling then they will target that market.

piratecat Sun 12-Feb-12 20:01:04

sydney i know what you mean. maybe it's because we've seen so so many picture of teens/early 20 somethings in the exact same pose in fashion shots.

SydneyB Sun 12-Feb-12 20:01:20

You see I don't mind that Milkwaysandbump.. that's just a bikini. Why should a bikini in itself be sexual on a small child? For me it's all about the pose and expression in the pic I linked.

Milkyways - I'm totally with you. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that! I'm having my own little boycott of Vertbaudet until the next catalogue comes out.

Cabrinha Sun 12-Feb-12 20:02:21

It's quite adult, rather than sexual - though there's a slight jut of the hip, so I sort of get what you're saying, though don't agree.
I think it's a red herring that you can buy it for 6yo. The photo is more like a 13yo. I think it'd be dsturbing to see a 6yo in that pose - but you don't.
