I went to Sainsbury's on Monay night and parked in the P&C area despite not having DS with me. I did this because it's closer to the door, I was feeling quite lazy and there is something quite satisfying about using such a large parking space. I justified this to myself because demand for these spaces is very low at that time of night.
When I finished shopping and returned to the car, there was a man with two children one about 3 or 4 and what was probably a 1 year old returning to his.
I've been on Mumsnet for a while now and have learnt to gauge myself when AIBU but this time I just can't decide whether was he more within his rights to judge me for using a space I technically wasn't entitled to or if I should have been judging him for taking young children shopping after 9pm?

you should have judged each other until a wormhole of judging opened up and ate the universe.

I think you should have ripped each other's judgey pants off in the car park and gotten busy. That's what I think.
you were more in the wrong than him.
You were wronger than a wrong thing in wrongsville.
When he takes his kids to Sainsbo is up to him.

Hm. On the information you have provided, he should have been judging you. However, if any of the children weren't wearing hats/gloves/winter coats and you spotted any fruit shoots or sausage rolls in his trolley then the balance could tip back in your favour.

why should either of you being judging...
If anything, he would be in a position to judge, as he was not abusing the facility of parent and space parking, which you were...
.. but then at 9pm I doubt it was busy... so who cares..

Him.
You parked in a P&C place with no C. Wrong ! 'Feeling lazy' isn't a good enough excuse ! Nor is 'lack of demand for spaces' !
You have no idea why the man was there with his 3 DC's after 9pm. Maybe they had been to visit Mummmy in hospital ? Maybe they don't have a Mummmy and he had finished work, picked up DCs and dashed in to get essentials ?
Just my opinion.

You are making excuses for your very naughty behaviour. Get on the thinking step!

2 pre schoolers - meh. I know plenty of people who keep their children up that late until they started school. You had no excuse.

Can I just add that I am 8 weeks pregnant so technically I did have a DC with me?
LingDitLong they weren't even wearing coats! (Ignores the fact it wasn't cold)
I think they cancel each other out don't they?
Which means you can both get away with whatever you're doing, judgement free.

Agree with Chub. Drip feeding.
OK, so 'technically' you were entitled to used the P&C, but no-one looking at you would know, would they ? So you are still in the wrong for thinking you could judge him, and not be judged yourself.

You are more unreasonable because you were being lazy. When he takes his dc's shopping is up to him, at least he was following the rules <conformist>
What is it with people that can't walk across a car park
I'm crap at parking and have a big 7 seater so I park the back end of nowhere in the car park. You should try it, it's very liberating to park where no one else is and have a stroll

Doyouthinktheysaurus Did I forget to mention it was dark and foggy anything could have happened to me on the way to the shop if I parked at the back of the carpark.
Minniebar he looked employed, although there is still the possibility that he is in receipt of working tax credit.

I think what he did is worse than what you did. Judge away and be smug that you got to park where you wanted to without being challenged.
I cannot understand why when building new stores someone doesnt just say.... build all the spaces bloody bigger.
The ToysRus at Swindon has a huge car park, I have never seen more than the first two rows used and there are another 7 in front and three half rows to the side. They could be blummin lorry sized and you would never fill the place
<rant over>
Our new Sainsburys has redone the carpark with Bigger Spaces. It's almost the only place in town I can park anywhere and get doors open and pram out. The darlings sniff
oh that sound better. I have always wondered why the size is as it is. I have got trapped a few times in the past when I was pregnant and I stopped parking in Westgate as the spaces were so small you would always get someone parking so close I couldn't get DS in and have to leave him in his puschair and pull the car out

I love this ...
perhaps the dispute could be resolved by biblically offering to cut one of the children in half a la King Solomon?

Was he sporting a Mumsnet style scarf or haircut?
Did he flash you from his rear window with a Netmums style ticker?
More drip feeding please.....
