To buy a really cute babygrow before I'm even pregnant?

(36 Posts)

We've been TTC for 7 months now with no luck, but I've just seen a really cute babygrow that features one of my hobbies that I'd love to got for my (future) kiddies! Am I tempting fate by buying it? It's already out of stock in 6-12mths and I don't want it to sell out before I get pregnant!

Depends how superstitious you are really. I know lots of people probably wouldn't for fear of jinxing things- myself included! That said, if you want to, go for it.

We didn't buy anything until after the 20 week scan. But we are both pretty negative!

WillCrossThatBridge Tue 07-Feb-12 21:46:17

you could buy it as a token of hope and positivity!

I don't believe in this tempting fate business!

WillCrossThatBridge Tue 07-Feb-12 21:47:03

Also, can you provide a link?! so I can get broody looking at teeny cute things in case my nephew-on-the-way might need it!

FolkGirl Tue 07-Feb-12 21:48:10

I also need to see it before passing judgement.

Oh ok then! I used to ski for a living, so... http://www.plainlazy.com/can-t-ski-babygrow-pink.html

Sorry but no. It sounds a teensy bit like buying a wedding dress when you're not even engaged. Will you stop there? There will be plenty of cute baby-gros around when you are actually pregnant.

McHappyPants2012 Tue 07-Feb-12 21:55:12

i wouldn't.

you could get pregnant with twins, or have a boy ( unless you get pink and blue) not that i am gender sterotyping.

BikeRunSki Tue 07-Feb-12 21:57:44

I'm with the supersticious camp, I'm sorry. Plain Lazy don't change their slogan's that often, and there's also Cafe Press.

Twins do run in my family!

You're all right of course, there will be plenty of stuff to buy after I get pregnant. I just needed someone to tell me. DH loved it too, and he's usually the sensible one!

Oh god, BikeRunSki you've got me squeezing over all those cafepress ones now! So cute!!!

WillCrossThatBridge Tue 07-Feb-12 22:04:58

ah, you see, you'd have to choose pink or blue! I think best not, then!

(not that there's anything wrong with pink on a boy or blue on a girl but the remarks of strangers assuming pink=girl or blue=boy when it is not the case would annoy me!)

Step away from the pinkness - I am sure you'll be able to track one down when you are pregnant and/or have one made specially if you can't!

BikeRunSki Tue 07-Feb-12 22:07:19

ChocolateWindmill CafePress are fab aren't they? I discovered them when DS was sent a Tshirt that says "Cycling is in my Blood" (DH and I both cyclists) when he was born.

FolkGirl Tue 07-Feb-12 22:30:16

Mm, sorry OP, not cute enough to justify it I'm afraid.

You'll have to wait at least until you're pregnant!

FuriousRox Tue 07-Feb-12 22:31:20

I was given a cant sail top for my daughter, which is cute, so yanbu for wanting one. But personally I wouldn't buy before you are pg. it took us bloody years and was hard enough without gorgeous babywear sitting sadly in a drawer somewhere . Hopefully it will happen very soon for you, but for now I say yabu.

MissTapestry Wed 08-Feb-12 06:23:23

I was all ready to say yeah, go for it, then I saw the price shock . £25. For a babygro???? <tightarse> grin

I did before dd1. Superstition be buggered, makes no difference. What wil be will be. If there was anything in it, no one would ever have a second baby unless their first child was a teenager and the house cleared of baby stuff.

weddingringdilemma Wed 08-Feb-12 07:56:21

I would, I'm sure you will be pregnant soon!

Happenstance Wed 08-Feb-12 08:02:29

i did, got pregnant 2 weeks later so i say go for it, babygro now has pride of place in my hospital bag smile

lesley33 Wed 08-Feb-12 08:13:10

tbh I think its fine.

FlangelinaBallerina Wed 08-Feb-12 08:21:27

Wouldn't use the phrase tempting fate, but would looking at it upset you if you had a false positive test or chemical miscarriage? I always thought that was where the old superstitions came from- to save women the added heartbreak of beig confronted with baby things and having to either put them away or dispose of them.

startwig1982 Wed 08-Feb-12 08:24:12

We didn't buy anything until after the 20 week scan, as we had an enlarged nuchal fold and had extra heart scans (not amnio though, was dead against having one). When we got the all clear, we bought the pram and car seat in the January sales. DS was born completely fine but I would have been beside myself if something had happened and we had a load of baby stuff.

Whirliwig72 Wed 08-Feb-12 08:26:01

Omg that Dior baby bro is outrageous - presumably it cost so much because it comes with its own laundrymaid to hand wash it? grin
