Thank you for the new thread @Bizzywater Smile and well done to us all still here. I've decided to put a pound in a pit for every week I do t drink. Anything that helps me to save money. How's everyone else?

Bizzywater · 20/01/2023 18:43

What a great idea @teaandtoastwithmarmite !
I have been listening to podcasts and I've heard a few people say about recognising your achievements.

I'm on day 14 today and I've promised myself a little treat when I reach my milestones - 30, 50, 100 days etc.

I read the Allen Carr book and I feel like something has clicked. Still taking a day at a time, had a bit of a craving when I got home from work today but it's passed

@Haveatakeaway are you about?

Hey guys thanks for the new thread and remembering me! Im 4 days today.

I've got that shit early days sleep thing going on but it will be worth it long term.

@Bizzywater well done, that's brilliant! Can you recommend me any podcasts? I think I saw somewhere Matt Willis of busted fame is making a documentary on his addictions, I think that will be interesting.

@teaandtoastwithmarmite that's a good idea! I started putting about £20 across each time I didn't go to the pub or shop last time, but spent it all on junk food and quit lit 😂

A few weeks ago I got scared. I was out with DH for dinner and we were sat at the bar and a man in outdoor work clothes came in and sat next to us. He was shaking like a leaf and I asked him if he was ok, and he nodded at the bar and said he would be after the first couple of "those". It was a pint of cider with a straw in it because he couldn't physically hold the glass until he'd had enough to stop the shakes. I keep thinking about him. He was probably in his fifties and had a chat with me about what that level of alcoholism is like. He said he doesn't even get drunk anymore, he just gets ill if he doesn't have a certain amount of alcohol. I can't imagine being so poorly and doing such phsyical work. Hope the man can find help.

@Haveatakeaway I like the sassy sober mum podcasts.
21 days today and I'm still getting cravings at 'wine o clock'. They do pass but it's bloody annoying! It's weird how the brain works because I actually don't want a drink the rest of the time

Hi how is everyone doing?

Kittensat36 · 21/03/2023 22:57

Hi all. Haven't had drink since last June - it was the Alan Carr one for me as well.

I still get tempted. A friend gave me a bottle of Vodka to thank me for the favour ( she didn't know). I still get the little voice saying I could have some if I want...... My reply is no because

A. Define "some" because that's a dangerous amount. I won't stop at one.
B. You only drink it to make Coke taste alcoholic and we have already agreed that is not a good idea (and a waste of Vodka) and
C. Why am I having this conversation with myself at 7 in the morning?

I hasten to add that I have never had a drink that early. Not sure why I am thinking about it then.

Fortunately, once I get a diet Coke with a ton of lemon, I am happy.

Hope everyone else is staying strong.

Hello, I’m joining as I need help! I am knocking back the wine to deal with stress which of course is rubbish as im awake now at 2pm
i said I’d stop, but Dh bought a bottle in, and I just guzzled it. Not happy, help!

Prettypaisleyslippers · 22/03/2023 19:46

Sparkling water is a godsend. I’ve started taking B supplements too, might help with brain fog.
