It's DS's birthday on Saturday and I'm getting him a wii. And I've bought the Skylander game. Quick, while I still have time to take the game back ...do your dc's like Skylander ? Grateful for any feedback

Our dd absolutely adores it. She has even spent the rest of her Christmas money on another 6 figures.

My DS got Skylanders for Xmas and also loves it. He has also spent most of his Xmas money on extra figures and an adventure pack.
I hope they bring out additional games that the figures can be used with as he has played it so much that I'm worried he doesn't have many chapters of the main game to go !!

my ds loves it (indeed we all do) but you do need extra figures - the figures need resting regularly so either the game becomes quite short or you need others to enable you to prolong it! ds rates it as his top present this year!

DD loves it, DS loves watching it. We have 4 figures (starter 3 and a freebie from a promo event) and no problems with needing more yet....

My ds (7) and his dad (38) both love it. Ds got it for his birthday in November and was quite happy with the 3 initial figures. He was given 3 more by a relative for his Christmas though and it does mean he can keep playing longer if a character is "resting"

your dcs are obviously more successful at playing the game than us ... our characters need resting far too often ... I think we need to up our game and stop being beaten up so badly!

Thank you all - I'm feeling excited about giving him the present now. I had no idea though that the figures need 'resting'. I thought the three figures in the starter pack would keep him going for ages. Can I ask how old are all your dc's ? (ggirl excepted). DS is turning 8 so I hope he wont find it babyish.

DD(8) and DS(6) got it as a joint christmas present, and absolutely love it, especially DS. The fact that the characters get "tired" is for me a good thing because it makes it easier to pry them away from the screen for a while, otherwise they'd be playing it nonstop all day long.

DS had a major trantrum within the first hour though when he realised he couldn't get through a certain door without a different type of character. I thought the game was already fairly expensive and was not prepared to buy loads of new characters and made that clear to the kids and now they are fine with it as there is still loads of play left in it anyway. So you may need to decide how you will deal with the requests for more figures when they arise.

ds is nearly 7! We get through the figures because we play 2 player and are not very good! It takes quite a while to get through each chapter and it doesnt save in between so if you run out of players then you have to start that level again but your players will then be rested!

DS (8) didn't ask for it, but says it was one of his best presents.

DS is 8 and doesn't think the game is too young for him. It is probably just about the right level as he doesn't get frustrated like he does with some of his other games when he gets stuck and can't move on to another level.

DS (7 last week) absolutely loves it. He's got about a dozen figures already and the two extra adventure packs through Christmas and Birthday in the same week and does tend to use most. I'd advise one at least from each section to enable you to go through all parts of the game.

This is extremely useful. I dont yet know what the 'sections' are, but presumably DS will be all to well aware soon. I must say, I hadnt realised what an expensive undertaking this game is, but hopefully it will give much pleasure . I do hope Skylanders will bring out other games that utilise the characters we are forking out for. And perhaps that DS will play with the characters as action figures, using his imagination . Or perhaps that's too much to hope for !

My Ds 7, (8 in March) loves it. We tried to buy more figures but the 3 packs are sold out everywhere near us. My problem with it is the relentless American accents yelling stuff all the time and it's a bit silly. Really silly actually.
There is also the opportunity to go online with your figures by joining the Spyro adventure on the computer.Then you can buy and collect stuff in the same way as Club Penguin etc.

Extremely well here - still impressed with the characters turning up in game concept (7 and 4). Also trying to get the adventure pack, sold out still. I agree the game is a bit silly - not one I will play with them I dont think. For us though, one unintended bonus is that it is actually a comparatively easy platform game - more so than the other games we have (Mario, Lego etc) so this is the first one where the 4y old can join in and play with his older brother without my constant supervision. The 2 player control system is better so the older one can drag him round and he is getting used to playing a platform game, not as frustrating a 2 player on the lego games etc whre he holds him up.

The only other thing I dont like apart from the American voices is that it seems a tad unecessarily violent in places for a game that is cleary aimed at a younger audience. (although the PEGI is 7 I suppose)

Perfect for a 7/8 y old though I would say. We have the 3 figures that came with it and 2 more they each got for chistmas so we have 5 of the 8 worlds/types represented. I think you could easily get away with one from each area (=8) for most of the game?

Nothingold I didn't know about the online option - ds would love that - can you tell me more or point me in the right direction please?

I would agree it is a bit violent - my ds would have been scared by it when he was younger but he has some "issues" so is a bit more easily frightened than most of his friends.

My 7y old had a nightmare with some of the characters in it! Bit worried about the 4y old playing it tbh will prob limit it when back at school.

You take the USB connector out of the wii and put it in your computer and them use the portal next to the computer to do the online stuff. Can't remember the website but it's in the instructions that came in the box.

Im sure with a massive money spinner like this activision will do another game, probably loads, spyro skylanders itself is already part of a series of games, this is just new with the portal concept (which I have to admit is quite cool)

we got the xbox version and ds who is nine loves it. Bear in mind the PEGI is seven so younger dc may not get on with the violent aspects that well.

Just a word of warning though the character packs seem to be sold out everywhere - I got one tripple pack - the last one - in Game on Saturday but my sister's dc had it as well and my mum said she can't find character packs anywhere near where they live.

My ds1 (9) and 2 (7) love it. Best christmas present apparently, although they are already planning to buy ALL the other figures (dream on sunshine!!)
