That's what it boils down to, isn't it, if they're willing to abandon and jeopardise a big international conference on global LGBTQ+ rights (the often lethal lack of them in many countries, unlike here) over the T aspect of the UK conversion therapy bill?
""Lots of international stakeholders, particularly those in the Global South, will be dismayed at this cancellation and the loss of this golden opportunity to advance LGBT rights and freedoms in the most hostile environments." (source from Paul Brand ITV's Twitter thread)
And here, groups who get paid millions of pounds, including by the taxpayer, to advocate for LGB as well as the T now won't. They know full well the reason why the Govt has said it needs more time and evidence over the T aspect of the conversion therapy bill, and they know detransitioners exist, even if their websites won't mention their existence, let alone actually provide support or add them to the ever expanding alphabet. Having first abandoned the entire bill, the Govt then swiftly reintroduced the LGB aspect and said it needs more careful discussion and evidence around the T. The LGBTQ groups could do likewise now, engage in proper adult discussion, which includes listening to evidence, and in the meantime do their job and listen to the voices of far less privileged LGBTQ+ people globally, some of whom are actually being killed and imprisoned because of their sexuality and presentation.
