Didnt know how to title this

UK — Weoley Castle, Birmingham.A 61-year-old male who was sent to men’s prison after pursuing a woman into the street and biting off her nose has put in a request for transfer to women’s prison.
Kali Gills, who identifies as female, was drinking at a friend’s flat in Weoley Castle on 7 November 2020 when the two had a confrontation. Mr Gills would later claim that he was head-butted by the friend, and had followed her and bitten off her nose as an act of “retaliation.”

Mr Gills pleaded guilty to Wounding With Intent, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Maxine Styles argued that a “lengthy” jail sentence would impact on her client’s plans for “gender reassignment surgery.” Despite acknowledging that the attack was an “unwarranted, aggressive act of violence” that must have brought the survivor “unbearable pain,” Judge Avik Mukherjee sentenced the perpetrator to just four years in prison.

Here's another report. I can't believe the Judge.

He described the surgery as 'remarkable' as he added that more surgery would need to follow.

"She has lost four inches off her forehead and suffers pain all of the time. She has been receiving, and continues to receive, counselling and is house bound. In her words, 'this has destroyed my life'", he continued.

"You used your teeth as a weapon to cause a permanent and irreversible injury."

Judge Mukherjee said he couldn't deal with her request to be moved to a women's prison at the time, but would in the near future.

He added: "There is significant mitigation, your poor mental health and mental state and I'm aware of the intentions. I'm aware of the effect of a prison sentence. I reduce the sentence from the starting point [of seven years] down to five years."

The sentence was reduced further down to four years due to her guilty plea.

Jesus I literally have no words AngrySad

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 31/10/2021 14:46

Recognised gender certificate?

All intention and no apparent deeds done in order to achieve one!

So what would be being 'recognised'?

NotTerfNorCis · 31/10/2021 15:00

She has lost four inches off her forehead and suffers pain all of the time. She has been receiving, and continues to receive, counselling and is house bound. In her words, 'this has destroyed my life'"

Four years. Mind blowing. Will this violent person be going to a women's prison? I hope not. Injustice piled on injustice.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 31/10/2021 16:01

Yeah, but come on, remember it is possible the victim started it by head butting him

So it serves her right!

FFS!

When will enough be enough?

FrancescaContini · 31/10/2021 16:03

Christ almighty 🤬

Imnobody4 · 31/10/2021 16:03

When the Judge says
I'm aware of the effect of a prison sentence.
What does he mean - the interference with getting a GRC, of being placed in a male prison?

There are absolutely no mitigating factors at all unless identifying as trans is itself a mitigating factor.

I'm not sure if this can challenged. Judge says its one of the most serious cases of violence the court has seen. Max sentence is life - 4 years is ludicrously light.

So waiting for gender alignment surgery is mitigation against serving prison time for causing someone to need serious plastic surgery?

And that surgery gets you into a women’s prison, after attacking a woman?

It’s like The Daily Mash meets Squid Games.

Appalling incident how can anyone possibly think this person should be placed in a women’s prison

caramac04 · 31/10/2021 18:43

I have no words

Grumpyosaurus · 31/10/2021 19:21

Mind blown. Again.

That poor woman.

That attacker should never be allowed near women in prison.

Grumpyosaurus · 31/10/2021 19:21

Oh, and that crime should go in the male stats, not the female ones.

OneEpisode · 31/10/2021 19:51

The same person? committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/13709/pdf/

I am told you look like a woman, you move, talk and dress like a woman, you work as a woman

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 20:22

Yes I got that on Google didn't know whether to post. I think it is same person.

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 20:23

Let's not go putting lots of stuff on here though or thread will go...

But yes that submission is interesting.

Imnobody4 · 31/10/2021 20:23

It does look like the same person, well spotted.
I'm so upset by this sentence - so much dealing with VAWG.

I have emailed a request for a sentence review to the Attorney General's office. It's very easy, just click FlyingOink's link. There is a link there to send an email, just below the helpfully outlined info of what you need to include (perp's name, date of sentence etc).

Please do it!

Isn't this judge a bit of a problem wrt male violence against women and girls? In this one he suspended teh sentence desspite saying he thought the perpetrator would breach the order, that his attack on the girl (under 13) was appalling and suspending the sentence was a huge risk.
