I have only been on Mumsnet for a couple of days, but reading a few threads here leads me to believe that feminism needs an equivalent to Godwin's law, hopefully it would be another weapon in our armoury when faced with derailments on feminist issues.
A few triggers for this new law might be, for example:
Misandry.
Feminazi.
Hysterical women.
It happens to men too.
Porn's not bad because...
It's feminine empowerment.
Also what would we call it?
I suppose it would have to be called Rm's law
Would man haters be on the list or is it covered by misandry?
What about "prosex feminst" to imply that other feminists who don't poll dance hate sex?
Love it, no I think 'man haters' could stand alone, ha, ha, 'prosex feminist'.
It shouldn't be named after me (and anyway RMs 'not my name', to quote an annoying song) maybe it's because I don't have dingly, dangly bits that I don't need to have everything named after me.
Godwins (whoever he is) has been dining out on it for 20 years, I think you should take your claim to fame where you can it
can get it
Maybe it's the feinting female in me, we mustn't push ourselves forward, we might upset the men.
In which case if it were named after me it should be M********'s law, but then ironically I took my husband's name so that means it would be his name, but then it was conversations with him that led to the thread so...
Argh, I am a betrayer of all womankind! Buggar.
The feminist quandary

I nearly fell for that
Sorry, I meant fainting, it wasn't some devious woman trick.
Just an extra idea, perhaps it could actually be more like bingo. Each Misogynist trope gets a number, and when we've spotted them all in one thread we get to call 'Misogynist Bingo', do you think MN would be up for organising prizes?
I'll shut up now.

Lining up with two little ducks and all the fat ladies!
I play poker on some threads.
'I see your Feminazi and raise you Two Empowered Lap Dancers.'
Unfortunately the word 'feminist' is itself a Godwin's Law in many situations. It is especially used against young women by young men. No need for Feminazi or ball breaker or any of the rest. 'Feminist' is now a gendered insult.
morewomeninskepticism.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/27-gendered-insults/ Good blog here.
Really good blog, thanks. Will bookmark.
You're so right about the word feminist, but I will stubbornly continue to use it, I will NOT be silenced by those creeps.
Although it would be nice if feminists could have a new name, like 'The Sherbet Dip Dabs', you couldn't demonise that, and 'The Sherbet Dip Dabzis' just wouldn't work.
Then again the MRM could demonise anything, they're just horrible.
Maybe we could give them a new name? 'The Poo heads', I mean they're too stupid to have a cool evil name.
Sorry for rambling, bored and tired, insomnia sucks bum!
I was just going to suggest the old "lap dancers are all phd students doing it for shits and giggles" but lineruner beat me to it.
The other would have to be "men suffer DV too". Yes they do. That is sad and wrong. Go and be angry about it somewhere relevant.
go and be angry somewhere relevant
Yy to that
I know It's a bit tangential but, can anyone tell me why the media are so obsessed with opening doors?
It seems every time the word feminist is mentioned, door opening becomes the issue of the day.
Yes I want the door opening, yes I'm a feminist, surely EVERYONE should open doors for EVERYONE else, isn't that just polite?
Yes, opening doors - "the death of chivalry" and "women just want it both ways".
Does "women's brains are hard-wired for nurturing. Why won't you just accept that?" fit here?
YY Smallclanger, I was coming on here to say the same - pink brain vs blue brain bullshit.
"Equal but different"
"It's biology"
"in a post-feminist world"
"feminism's gone too far"
"I really love women but ..."
"you're overthinking it"
