Before I start, Im sorry if this goes on but its a long story.

I live in a very small village and every year we have a gala where all the village comes out and a good time is had by all. People come from all over the place. Anyway, it was last Saturday. I am on the committee and we had a our final meeting before the gala on Thursday night. When I arrived at the meeting there were various people unloading vans etc and generally getting things ready. I noticed 2 men unloading tables etc. One of the men happend to have his 2 daughters with him and I was informed that he was one of the local scout group leaders. I noticed he had a t shirt on which had a sillouette on it of a naked woman and the words 'Nice legs, what time do they open'. I really find it offensive under any circumstances but there were quite a few children running around, never mind his 2 daughters. Anyway, I said to my husband look at that. With that, my husband went over to him and said in very calm manner 'I dont think that t shirt is appropriate around children as IMO it is offensive to women'. Anyway, the guy apologised and took the t shirt off and turned it inside out before putting it back on. End of story, no more was said.

On Saturday night we have a dinner and dance in the marquee. Everyone was having a good time. To cut a long story short at the end of the evening, about half an hour before it finished, this man's wife came over to me and just gave me the most horrendous verbal abuse. I couldnt believe it. Her husand just sat at his table with his head in his hands. I said to her that I would discuss it with her when she was sober as she was VERY drunk. She just kept harping on that her husband should have the right to wear what he wants, called me a wierdo, told me to f off and threatened to beat me up! I was a bit embarrassed because I am in my 50s and would look a bit stupid having a fight!!!! Besides, I cant stand violence and the only time I shout is when I am on a march! I told her to go away as she was just showing herself up. She then started to push my husband around and pushed him onto the dance floor. He is so not violent so he just laughed in her face and walked away. I had already walked away.

At the end of the day, we just expressed our opinion. I thought we had that right, obviously not!

Again, sorry to go on. Just had to get it off my chest.

Bunch of drunken idiots! Have you spoken since? That is unacceptable behaviour from her!
T shirts like that are offensive, and its quite sad that some men choose to wear them. I tend to avoid men that do because if they think that is funny or clever then they are a bit dim. It's just even more blatant sexism on show, like your advertising it!
The fcuk ones with the stick figures were awful.

MrsClown1 · 14/08/2012 09:27

No we havent spoken since. I dont know them, they love in the next village down I think. Thanks for your support, I thought I was going mad. My husband works with a 25 year old man and he was telling him. He said he has seen those t shirts but wouldnt even think of buying one. The guy wearing it was at least 40 so I thought he would have known better but obviously not. It worries me that he is involved with the Scout movement. I told him that my son (he used to be a scout but is 19 now) would not be going to a scout group he was running if he wears things like that!

Well done to your DH, mine hates confrontation and would have look at me in a resigned manner for giving the bloke a filthy look.

He would have got a filthy look too.

As for his wife their is no use reasoning with her.

NoComet · 14/08/2012 09:50

There is

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 14/08/2012 11:04

I think I'd be more angry at my DH for wanting to wear a t-shirt loaded with sexual innuendo to a kids fete when he is old enough to know better, than at a person who had politely asked him to cover it up.

What kind of marriage is it, when a man wears a sexual proposition and the wife drunkenly defends it?

What if you had taken him up on the question - would that have made her happier?

They sound a ridiculous pair - sorry they ruined your evening.

MrsClown1 · 14/08/2012 11:26

Thanks for that. However, dont worry I didnt let them ruin my evening. That day I had arranged and run a charity dog show which went amazingly well and i raised £133 for a local animal shelter. I was on a high because 69 dogs had been entered and everyone had really enjoyed it! Myinn - I would have been really annoyed too if my DH (or DS for that matter) had actually bought the t shirt, never mind worn it. Thank God my DH has more sense than that. Re taking him up on it, if ever I am 'lucky' enough to see her again I will ask her.

Well done for the fundraising. That woman is odd - completely inappropriate T-shirt anyway but especially given the event. Some points to him for realising your point and turning it inside out (though negative points for being silly enough to own/wear it in the first place!)

TeiTetua · 14/08/2012 13:15

Note "Her husband just sat at his table with his head in his hands". Maybe he had experience which said he had a choice between watching her tear into someone else or tear into him.

MrsClown1 · 14/08/2012 13:17

Tei - we said the same thing. Infact, she was so violent I said to my DH 'there will be DV going on in that house Im sure'. He seemed afraid of her. I had actually seen him during the day at the gala and he wouldnt even look at me he looked so embarrassed.

Real men push the pram?

dysx8 · 22/08/2012 15:17

Hate those tshirts. No one with taste/morals would buy one.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/08/2012 15:28

Dear God Shock

Well done to you and your DH for a) speaking to the bloke in the first place, and b) not stooping to her level!

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 22/08/2012 17:11

at least he wasn't wearing one of these!

MrsClown1 · 22/08/2012 18:12

OMG. Ive just had a look at your link! I cant believe it. I try to see a positive - my thought is 'well obviously we are really bothering some people by having opinions'.

Aliba - thanks for that.

Just checked out the Jamrags Tshirt range on that website.
I dont know what to say really other than, look on the bright side.
By wearing on of their Tshirts the guys are I.D.ing themselves as horrible pricks.
Without one they could be taken for a normal person. Smile

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 24/08/2012 10:24

I find it quite strange - it's just one website out of millions, so why would be people be bothered?

But, OTOH I quite like the fact that it obviously annoys the shit out of some misogynistic twats. Grin

My husband has never slagged off mumsnet, even when I asked for advice and the replies were all in my favour and not his...!

Perhaps we should get some made up e.g. "Whorist.com - we're telling your wives where you are, you dirty feckers!"

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 24/08/2012 12:28

Binfull, some of their more horrible t shirts got discussed on here and I think MNers contributed to Amazon delisting one or two.

I saw a teenager - about 14 I'd guess - with his gran in the park the other day, wearing a t shirt that said "Go Fuck Yourself".

I really am not a prude (promise!) but couldn't get over that teenager. It was a naice park as well!

RillaBlythe · 24/08/2012 12:38

Jesus - have you seen the tshirt on Jamrags that says "Calm down dear, let's not turn this rape into murder". Bloody hell.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 24/08/2012 12:51

Rilla, I'd keep some brain bleach handy...
