Before I start, Im sorry if this goes on but its a long story.
I live in a very small village and every year we have a gala where all the village comes out and a good time is had by all. People come from all over the place. Anyway, it was last Saturday. I am on the committee and we had a our final meeting before the gala on Thursday night. When I arrived at the meeting there were various people unloading vans etc and generally getting things ready. I noticed 2 men unloading tables etc. One of the men happend to have his 2 daughters with him and I was informed that he was one of the local scout group leaders. I noticed he had a t shirt on which had a sillouette on it of a naked woman and the words 'Nice legs, what time do they open'. I really find it offensive under any circumstances but there were quite a few children running around, never mind his 2 daughters. Anyway, I said to my husband look at that. With that, my husband went over to him and said in very calm manner 'I dont think that t shirt is appropriate around children as IMO it is offensive to women'. Anyway, the guy apologised and took the t shirt off and turned it inside out before putting it back on. End of story, no more was said.
On Saturday night we have a dinner and dance in the marquee. Everyone was having a good time. To cut a long story short at the end of the evening, about half an hour before it finished, this man's wife came over to me and just gave me the most horrendous verbal abuse. I couldnt believe it. Her husand just sat at his table with his head in his hands. I said to her that I would discuss it with her when she was sober as she was VERY drunk. She just kept harping on that her husband should have the right to wear what he wants, called me a wierdo, told me to f off and threatened to beat me up! I was a bit embarrassed because I am in my 50s and would look a bit stupid having a fight!!!! Besides, I cant stand violence and the only time I shout is when I am on a march! I told her to go away as she was just showing herself up. She then started to push my husband around and pushed him onto the dance floor. He is so not violent so he just laughed in her face and walked away. I had already walked away.
At the end of the day, we just expressed our opinion. I thought we had that right, obviously not!
Again, sorry to go on. Just had to get it off my chest.
