We want your views: Do you want weight loss chat threads to stop auto deleting?

Hi all,

We've noticed several of you have asked for your threads to be moved from weight loss chat so they don't disappear after ninety days, which got us wondering whether you'd prefer it if the threads in here didn't delete at all?

Let us know what you think!

Given that weight loss usually takes a fair while, it would seem smart not to delete support threads.
I think it would be good to end 90 day deletions.

Milllie · 04/10/2014 17:56

There are quite a few of us on long ongoing threads for weightloss so would like these to stay please. I am on the PaulMckenna threads which has been going for just over 3 years I think. From what I have seen though there are many weight loss threads that don't go anywhere and cease after a few posts or pages . So some could be dropped and some continued.

TooBigNow · 04/10/2014 18:04

I would prefer for them not to auto delete.

Milllie · 04/10/2014 18:05

Hi TooBig......hows things going for you?

gunsandbanjos · 04/10/2014 18:32

Auto delete seems like a bad idea to me!

Solo · 04/10/2014 18:52

I emailed last night/this morning the following:

I noticed yesterday that the weight loss chat threads are now set to disappear after 90 days. This is not good news to us on the Paul McKenna threads as we often go back into and recap on older threads and many new people to our PMK weight loss thread go and have a good read for inspiration and encouragement; so it seems a great shame to lose those threads and the historic camaraderie that is attached to them. They also hold recipes and exercises often from posters no longer on our threads. We can't get those back!

Do you think you could reconsider the decision on this please? perhaps the other regular weight loss threads would also benefit from keeping the old threads, though I can't speak for them.

I do hope you will overturn your decision and let us keep our threads.

Thanks MNHQ!!

So, I think that covers what I think about it! Grin

I think the threads need to be allowed to run their course. What was the reason for the auto-delete in the first place?

Hoopalong · 04/10/2014 21:02

Yes please. I often just want to refer back or see how much progress is made for inspiration.

mrsmilesmatheson · 05/10/2014 06:25

I'd really like for them not to disappear too. Like a pp said its useful to refer back for inspiration.

Bumping

TooBigNow · 06/10/2014 09:34

There are also quite a few threads about diet scams that people find helpful even if they don't post on them.

AmyMumsnet · 06/10/2014 10:27

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of your responses - that sounds like a resounding yes!

They originally auto-deleted because the board was a 'chat' board, but it seems to make much more sense for them to last indefinitely, so we'll see what we can do.

PoirotsMoustache · 06/10/2014 10:43

Ooh, I was just going to add my tuppence worth to ask that they not be deleted, as reading them from the start is a real help, but you're already looking into it. Thank you Grin

Solo · 07/10/2014 00:49

But they have never disappeared before?! Hmm. I can see at least back to thread 5 which goes back to 2011...

TooBigNow · 07/10/2014 22:29

Looks like Mumsnet have removed the auto delete as it no longer shows at the top of the page.

Thank you Mumsnet for listening to us. Thanks
