Schools shut de to snow. How do you keep kids entertained?

Interested to see what other parents do to keep their kids entertained on days where the school is unexpectedly closed. My sister has school aged kids & insists on "home schooling" on these days. She uses free resources form www.tes.co.uk I think she is a bit mean. What do you think?

Chuck them out in the snow.
Lock door until lunchtime.
Chuck out again.
Let them in at tea time.
Job done.

I have a back up supply of dvd's and popcorn. We chill, play in the snow, dry off with hot chocolate and just be us.
