Baby really excited when eating

My daughter is 7 months old and when she's eating she gets so excited that she she keeps inhaling the food and choking on it. Sort of like when you accidently swallow and it feels like it's gone done the wrong tube. She flings her arms and legs and grabs the spoon, shoves it in her mouth and breathes in the food. I try to clam her down, but she is just so excited to be eating.

Anyone have any tips to help her not breathe her food in or is this normal and all babies do it? I thought it was just something new and she would eventually get over it but she's been doing it for 2 months now and last night she was struggling for a long time and she got so upset she started crying and wouldn't finish her food.

Anyone else been in this position?

Try feeding small portions often, use small spoon, finger food , pasta is good
place on high chair, Breakfast try a plane biscute and a drink 1st change then
breakfast. I tend too put on baby TV on as a treat slows her down the distaction . Suggest you visit GP Though seek dietitions help may be underlying problem, better too be safe than sorry.

Regards

I'd stop the spoon feeding and let her pick up food and feed herself. If you need some inspiration for things to feed her try giving her what you eat, providing you eat fairly healthily of course or have a look here.

You might also want to have a word with your HV, inhaling food really won't be good for her lungs.

My son is almost 10 months and went through a phase of doing the same - super excited and inhaling everything. He calmed down after a week or two and I'm sure your LO will too, but if you're worried then finger food sounds like the way to go for the time being.
