If my second is anything like my first she won't be ready until 6.5 months (she's just under and I recall a few months back there was a hoo hah about weaning (meta analysis inviting further research into weaning and vitamins) and just want to be sure I can BLW this one as per first (didn't start til then as was moving continent on advice of paed abroad)

I have been bfeeding for a good few years and through preg and although I take vits, don't know if that will have any bearing?

TIA

Supposed to give Vits from 6 months according to something on NBC last week. I hadn't seen anything before this.

Hi, I already give vits (healthy started) given to me from 8 wks by HV. But that's k a and d I think, not iron

It's actually quite hard to find baby vits with iron in them. I did find some in a big Tesco though.

I'm bf and blw too, and my HV was very happy with all this. When I asked about giving vitamins she said she thought it would be a good idea, but only when I prompted her. She mentioned the iron, although nowadays people are generally more concerned about the lack of vitamin d though.

Just give baby food with iron in it, like spinach. That will get them the iron, and take vits yourself. Thats what I'm doing. And lots of long walks outside for light exposure for vit d.

You need 20 mins of proper sunshine to get enough vitamin D for a non-breastfeeding adult - fine today, but the first day for ages. And spinach actually isn't a good source of iron. (Red meat and dried fruit are.)

With baby led weaning (BLW) you are letting the baby self-feed at their own rate. So good to take a supplement/give drops to be on the safe side.
