DC is just 10 months old and yesterday was happily eating a small blueberry rice cake at the end of dinner.

Next moment little face was struggling and DC thankfully coughed and then vomited up all of the dinner from earlier. Is this gagging and vomiting normal?

Please advise as I am really anxious now although trying not to let DC pick up on my anxiety.

its normal, you have done well to get to 10mths and not have it happen before!

my dd was a nightmare for this, but now at 13mths she eats anything and everything no choking or gagging. i know its hard but he has a gag reflex for a reason and it worked!

if it makes you feel better you can doa first aid course where they will teach you how to cope in a choking situation, there are a few being run local to me at the moment, i am sure they are available all over the country smile

Yes, completely n ormal. DS does this all the time - their gag reflexes are very close to the front of the tongue so it doesn't take much to cause them to gag. We find often DS is gagging away, stressing everyone out and we can see the bit of food that is causing the problem on the back of his tonge ie nowhere near his throat. It's mostly just irritating if he's had a good meal and suddenly now vomits it all!

I had the same issue when trying to get DS to feed himself. My HV suggested giving him finger foods at the beginning of a meal followed by something mushier so if he's sick then it's not a waste of a whole meal! Hope that helps smile
