Has anyone stayed in the village or the hotel.

It is one of the items on my bucket list and I am thinking of doing it this year.

Or would I be better to rent a cottage close by and just go for the day.

Visit portmeirion every time we go to North Wales. it is a fantastic place to stay but the appartments are right in the "village" so during the busy times its a bit like being on a main road only noisier! The hotel is set down by the water and there isnt so much of a thoroughfare but still people milling about. If you have always wanted to stay there then fork out and go for it but when its quiet. if you are going when its busy then stay outside, book a meal in the hotel and enjoy North Wales generally. wouldnt really say there was more than a days worth of things to do here - its buildings to look at and coastal walks basically.

I loathe the place. It has a very odd vibe, rather like Disneyland, fake, constructed, but even worse, because DL is fantasy whereas Portmeirion is real yet not real.
Stay away!

I've been for the day a couple of times. Can't imagine there would be much to do that took longer than a day trip. I would stay nearby and go in for the day. smile

Thanks for the replies.

The only people I know who adore it are Prisoner fans. The accomodation doesn't look that good so I think a lovely cottage near by and a day trip is the way to go.

We stayed in the village for two nights. It was lovely. Being able to wonder around when the place was practically empty was great.
The room was beautiful as well.

I live nearby & hate the place! Nice for weddings...that is all.

We went for a day and thought it was good and really nice but only for 1 day.
