...and the girls' stuff is all pink and girly. I object less to bracelet kits being marketed to girls than to science and discovery kits being under the boys' heading. I'd buy science kits for my DD! I loved my micrscope as a child!

What do other people think? Which shop was it recently which came under pressure about what it markets to boys and girls?

Hamleys stopped labelling their departments as boys' and girls', though afaik the departments are still fairly blue and pink, and ELC have been criticised for the notorious pink globe.

I looked at the website just now and couldn't find any gendering - was this in the shop?

Lots of shops have been criticised for segregating toys. Hamleys were in the news recently for ditching their boys and girls sections so that might be who you were thinking of.

I could equally ask the same question about all things cookery, why are they marketed at girls, how many female chefs can you name?.

This was actually something I was thinking about earlier after seeing an advert for the Dora the Explorer cooking magazine that comes with pink cupcake holders.
