I have spent the day seperating my foal from his mother in order to wean him. The poor girl is looking very scrawny, the porky little monster is taking everything she has to give and more! I dont have anywhere to take her that is totally seperate, so I have put them in seperate adjoining paddocks, with the strongest fence I have in between. They can just about touch noses across the fence in one corner. The problem I have is that the small person is a total escapologist, and has no respect for the electric fence, and my energiser isnt working, so im using a piddly little solar power zapper instead! Please join me in praying that the little shitbag stays where I left him, and that his poor mothers milk dries up!

Here
This was in November (ish) he has moulted out all his white hair since then and has gone really dark grey with brown bits again! A few weeks before this picture, he was almost white! It's amazing how they moult different colour hair at different speeds!
Anyway. I've just been over to check, and he is where I left him! RESULT! Grin

Yes, and I could steal him now he's weaned!

Just need: MOT and a tax disc

How spooky, me too! My car is due tax at the end of the month, I was searcing for the documents and discovered that my MOT ran out in august!!! I was prepared to risk it, then I got a flat tyre too, so I decided that fate was warning me!

that's so funny, my tax ran out end Dec so thought I would renew online, more or less in time and all excited about being so organised only to find no MOT since last Feb or something ridiculous Shock

one or the other is not so bad but with both out of date I feel a bit brazen going anywhere and love that I have to drive past the police station to go anywhere!

Well, isolation lasted exactly two days! Got there yesterday and the little shit was out again! Sad

Can you send him or his Mum away somewhere for a couple of months?

Report
MitchierInge · 13/01/2012 11:20

can he come to the cinema with me this afternoon, for example?

There isn't really anywhere to send them. I do have a friend with a small paddock, who may let me borrow it, but it isn't colt proof, and there is too much grass for mum, she needs short rations to help dry her milk up. I suppose the only option is to send her there with a grazing muzzle! I expect I'll get some great comments, about a bony pony in a muzzle in January! I shall have to make a sign up!

Well, today I bit the bullet! I called in at my friends place, and she agreed to mum going for a holiday. So this morning I moved her and her friend round to a separate paddock, out of earshot. Neither mum or colt batted an eyelid! Foal just went off to play with his Aunty, and mum looked all excited to be going on a journey! It's not really how I wanted to wean them, but oh well!!

Somethings just have to be done. It really is better than her getting really poorly. And if he is an escapologist, then he would soon be out. I had afriends who had a mare and foal. They hadnt long bought her and assumed she was getting fat due to being stabled rather than fielded, but nope along came mystery. He was a little monster for getting out too! Wonder if all colts are like it?
