it was fitting it rained...proper british weather!
the choir above the royal philamonic orchestra mustve been wet throgh to their pants and still sung their hearts out<hurrah for waterproof mascara too>
the queen manages stand throughout, thats dedication!
wonder if shes itching for a cuppa<or somethig stronger
>
I got the feeling Liz and Phil shunned their thrones as being a bit OTT and Beckham wedding ish - did anyone else think that?
I thought the Queen coped very well standing for so long in the appalling weather. The pageant was a good idea in theory but did not prove to be the great spectacle that was the subject of all the hype in the media. I felt a little sorry for the Duke and Kate who both looked as though they were freezing.
To answer your question, Liveinazoo, the National Trust has various events going on with Wallace and Gromit as the star attractions - today!
Saw it in the embankment at putney. Really enjoyed it as not too crowded so could wander down earlier and see lots going on- then wander home for a cup of tea to warm up, wander down again etc etc. saw LOADS of boats- barges, gin palaces, life boats, fire engine boats, steamers, rowers, gondolas. Went on for hours
Loved it from the cosy warmth of home. Not something I would have taken the dcs to on my own to see in this weather, as we now live quite a number of hours away, although I remember seeing EII in her gold Jubilee coach in '77 for all of 4 seconds!
Wonder how many are now going to book to see War Horse?
I thought it was a bit boring, the boats looked messy and the queen looked bored shitless. We were saying I wonder if she gets home and says thank fuck that's over?
Loved it. Watched from Victoria Embankment. Saw very little but enjoyed the atmosphere and got a kick out of my three year old frantically waving a Union Jack.
Was on London Bridge, couldn't see a thing. It was boring. Thought there were gonna be loads of lovely boats, not just a couple of kayakers.
Ponders, totally agree about Joey. And Kate's outfit spot on, think Camilla could have tried a colour further away from the Queen's! But it wqs pretty special - we had friends moored by Tower Bridge and they had a great time. We were at home with bbc, unfortunately.
Watched it on telly, with OH passing by every so often asking if I was still watching it.
Err, yes, but I did have forty winks halfway through.
I thought there'd be load more boats.
Funny to see London all wet and us up here with rays of sunshine.
Yawn. I guess it's the classic 'you had to be there', it just went on and on and on.....
And I felt cold just watching.
yes, we said that, Incaminka.
The BBC coverage was so bad we switched to Sky; they still didn't have any interesting information
but were much less banal and had a reporter out in one of the boats.
& Joey the war horse was fantastic!!!
I thought it was great fun but inane inept coverage. Why didn't they do what they do with the grand national or crufts and prepare lots of backstories/profiles for some of the boats/ personalities involved? Then they could, have used them as and when/if needed instead of partisan rubbish celeb discourse...
oh yes, that sailor's hornpipe (?) was inspired, you can't listen to it & not jig about!
I loved it
glad I was wrapped up on the couch at home though, poor queenie must have been freeezing!
I hope the Queen had her thermals on (& that maybe there was a fan heater on the floor by her feet!). Her white outfit was genius, you could see her from the other side of the river.
currents were minimised by them closing the barrier apparently. I noticed at the end that 3 narrowboats which had sailed together hours before were still together (Merseyside, B'ham & one other). I think it was just the tiny boats that milled around.
I wouldn't have wanted to be in a kayak
the orchestra & choir at the end (esp the smiley choir, in the rain!) were just fabulous
I thought it was great...especially loved the ending when they all started bopping to the music.
wallace and gromit spectacle?
It just seemed a bit chaotic, and the flotilla didn't seem to follow the official route that had been highlighted.... - no was there slightly under duress but hey..... but we enjoyed the vino and beers in the pub afterwards
!
Glad we passed on the Wallace and Gromit spectacle tomorrow though....
ha ha
i think the undercurrents in the thames determine where boats ended up
agreew ith the hot water bottle/blanket
im not an ardent royalist but ds informing me she only the 2nd monarch to ever reach 60years is pretty cool and i will never see another diamond jbilee in my lifetime
Can I just add it all looked rather messy with bots just going wherever they liked by the looks if it . No choreography and the fireworks were rubbish
I'll be having a double G&T if u were her Maj . I wouldn't mak my nan stand for that long in the cold and rain I'll be wrapping her up in a blanket with a hit water bottle .
Yes all a bit Meh ! Til the philharmonic orchestra came in singing and shivering at the same time .
Glad I never went now , afaic I had the best seat in the house and a large voddie and orange .
She looked as though she enjoyed it though even if the youngsters looked a bit bored .
Kate looked lovely
i can just imagine her getting in and kicking off the heels with a
"phillip, put the kettle on dear and pour us a brew!"
