We lost our fabulous ginger tom two weeks ago and have now selected a fabulous six year old black and white puss cat boy.

We need to be checked out by the local cat rescue and he will come home to us in just over a week if all is well.

I am so excited. he is lovely, very affectionate, a bit shy and very cautious. The lady said he is unhappy in the cat rescue place and wants a home!

And we can't wait to give him one.

He sounds perfect! I thought you were going for a rabbit.

Six is a good age. He's likely to be not too bothered about roaming and fairly safe on roads. What do you know about his background?

......I thought you were going for a rabbit......

If you read between the lines, TCN, there was always going to be a cat - it was just a question of how long. Grin

Thanks all, no photo yet and yes a long complicated name! Will reveal once we know it will not change! Or there abouts!

We are going to foster rabbits. My dd wants to run a rescue centre one day so this helps her to see if she is up to the job, helps her to have fun bunny sitting and also helps us to finally do this because rabbits pop up every few years as an idea for her.

The issue I had was not looking after a rabbits for a bit, or buying all the stiff or even learning it all to the best of my ability but the idea we would stuck with a couple of poor old bunnies once the novelty had worn off. It may not! but that was my fear. I feel so much better. We will meet lots of rabbits and do some good. And we will have our cat as our family pet when rabbits go, so cuddles especially when kids are sad. But my kids are pretty tough. And it feels good to be doing something useful with dd's love of animals.

The cat is coming to us in a week, we need to be checked out first! So no access to photos.

How lovely, and you get to foster bunnies! What's not to like?.

Can't wait for the photos. There's a lovely b&W cat here who always comes running for a bit of fuss and a "who's a pretty girl".

Ours is a boy. He is not happy in the cat rescue place and just needs a family. How could I say no. He pleaded with his eyes.

I am afraid I was smitten!

Our rescue cats definitely chose us too...

Huntercat was adorable and bombproof with the toddler so I threw out my no long haired cat rule...

Feistycat hated being picked up but was fearless around the ankles of the kids and quite, quite mad as befits all torties...so out went the no cat who hates cuddles rule.

Right now Feistycat is sat on me, still hates being lifted but sees every lap as her warm seat. Huntercat has finished roaming the fields and eating mice and is sprawled out on the end of my bed.

Bliss.

Enjoy your new boy, I had a fabulous black and white cat years ago called Jake who was a stray I took in. I could wear him like a scarf around the flat while I sorted washing up. Awesome cat.

Aww, well done!

We got our first rescue cat this week. I'm amazed at how quickly she has settled in, and how it feels like we've had her forever. Enjoy every moment Grin.

Thanks all it is quite weird but I feel so excited! Like a bit of falling in love and having a baby but none of the hard work that either entails!!!

Yay - congratulations!

My boy was 6 when we got him - perfect age as not so boisterous or daft as a kitten but that part of him will still be there when you play!

So pleased for you
