Pug puppy gets bitey on the way back home

Six months old pug, cute as a button, but...

On the way home, he starts chasing my shoes/calves and biting them.

First, I chose to ignore and not reward the bad behaviour. He then bites harder until he actually hurts me. Yelping "ow!" or calling "off" makes no difference.

So I tried keeping him at arm's length. He then gets very agitated, growls and bark.

I've tried showing a great and walking "heel" all the way home. Works mostly, but when I don't have a treat with me I'm screwed, and also I can't help but think he's actually training ME so that I will get the treats out.

I've tried making him sit, stay for a good few minutes and see if he then behaves differently. He doesn't.

I have to admit I almost lost my patience today. We are home now and he is in time out in his bed.

I spoke to a puppy trainer who told me I need to find out why he is doing this. I imagine it's because he doesn't want to go home. I tried giving him longer walks so that eye gets tired and actually wants to be home, but when he gets really tired then he gets even more arsey and behaves worse.

Someone in this forum called her dog a twatface. I think mine is, too Sad

Not an expert but my Goldie used to do this. With him I came to the conclusion it was too much over stimulation. I actually made walks shorter and would get him to just sit for a while to let him calm down (not training, just chilling out).

He stopped but In the end I think it was just the fact he got older rather than anything special I did.

Did you then do more frequent walks? Because he goes bonkers when he's at home for a long time.

I did 2 walks a day with him, morning and evening but I was lucky in that I have a 2 acre field so we played a lot to get him tired.
