Dh actually found him, in the village, limping badly and with obvious cuts. The dog was entirely docile and let dh pick him up and put him in the car.

We've brought him in and made him comfortable on towels, and have rung the SPCA for advice etc. Plus we have taken photos and will put them on fb to see if we can trace an owner.

He has been offered, and has rejected, a few bits of dry food and some water. We are going to give him a gentle wash with warm water and a bit of dettol - is there anything else we should do?

You could call the non emergancy police, or dog warden if they work Sundays they will take it to the local kennels to get it vet care, just keep offering water and food.

Oh poor thing. Can't think of anything you could do..

When I found a dog I took him to the nearest vet who scanned for microchip.

We have a Staffie near us who wanders round all the time as it can jump out the window. Why they can't close the window is beyond me!

If my Staffie gets lost I hope someone like you finds him Smile

Update - the SPCA have come and taken him, and he is going to a vet - who will have a chip reader. The SPCA lady thought he'd been knocked down by a car.

She is going to ring and update us with his progress.

And we have rung the local police in case he is reported missing.

Oh bless him.
Hope he is reunited soon with his owners who must (hopefully) be worrying about him

Good news!

We just had a phone call from the owner - he ran away last night and they have been looking for him, and the police told them we had found a dog, so we compared descriptions and she is pretty sure he's her dog. She's going to ring the SPCA and make sure he's the right dog, and get him home.

I checked with the SPCA yesterday, and the dog went home on Sunday with his owner - so he obviously wasn't too badly hurt - he was limping, so I was worried about his leg/shoulder, but I guess it must have just been bruised or strained.

I bet he is getting spoiled rotten at home now!

Aww glad he is home with his owners and probably getting spoiled, I like a happy ending :)

Good news SDTG and well done to your DH for rescuing him.

How many people wouldn't have bothered- either too afraid of the dog or not wanting to get involved.

Hopefully the staffie will send you a Thank You card when his writing paw is better Wink
